Yes. Times 100 I will add!

Super rich, famous, sleeping with any 10 he wants, access to the best drugs, and now past his creative prime (31 years old). Many such cases. For 50 plus years a musician's creative peak is late teens to mid/late 20s.

NP. Wow. Glad I don't know you. What an incredibly narrow view of "prime" you seem to have.
Not referring to the Weeknd but to the huge, gross generalization in bold.

It's true. Look it up, any artist. Maybe you'll find an outlier here and there but on the whole, it's accurate time and time again. Just as an example:

How old was Phil Collins when he wrote and record "In The Air Tonight"? 29-yo.

50 Cent when he recorded his top album "Get Rich or Die Trying"? 25-yo.

Eminem when he recorded 8 Mile soundtrack? 27-yo.

Taylor Swift's top 2 selling albums? 20-yo and 25-yo.

I've never heard a Taylor Swift song and I'm not a big fan of rap.
I'm more of a Leonard Cohen type of woman and he was creating brilliant music into his eighties.

I have never read a post on DCUM that so clearly stated "i'm an old fogey' at heart if not in years, than this one

Why, because I don’t like American pop and rap?
I’m sorry you’re trashy.

Most overrated is probably anything from Tyler Perry. Soul Plane though I don't think that's a surprise. Add Precious to the horrible list as well. A Space Odyssey even for it's time was very boring. Saving Private Ryan was another overly rated movie. Tom Hanks was good in Forrest Gump but he's has his failings. Big is another one though maybe not from a child's view. Do I need to mention Borat, lol. Total garbage.

Same!

This is not an unpopular opinion at all.

I agree with you on all of the poppy country music but if you dig a little deeper, there is some great music. Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Patsy Cline, John Prine, Hank Williams, Roseanne Cash, Johnny Cash's last album and Ray Charles did some country songs. All of these artists put out some great music

No lol. Because saying something vaguely like 'what the kids listen to is trash and I listen to the good old stuff' is basically the definition of being an old fogey. And that is your post but you seem to be saying it with no self awareness. Like admitting you have never even HEARD a Taylor Swift song is basically admitting you have zero actual knowledge of current music from the last decade or so.

Outing myself as someone who isn't 80? Ok.

Anonymous wrote:It's funny how so many of these "unpopular opinions" are anything but that. More like people smugly typing out widespread forum beliefs. Posts bashing Justin Timberlake/Jessica Biel and Scarlett Johansson. How original and daring.

I'll throw out a truly unpopular one. The Harry Potter movies are trite, dull and vastly overrated. The fandom as such don't exactly help.
The Social Network is a great movie and the Winklevoss twins are great. Really don't care what the actor has done with his girlfriends since.

+1. "Unpopular" here means "Conventionally Middle-brow."

Agreed! I don't understand the devotion towards Beyoncé. Her songs are just alright. Her acting is wooden. The Bey-Hive basically forces submission to her.

~ Woke ~ Dr. Who. The story line is little more than screenplay vomit. I'm done with it forever more.

I said nothing of the sort. I took issue with the assertion that musicians hit their peak in their teens or early twenties.
I like plenty of current music. And no, I'm not familiar with Taylor Swift. I'm not American. There is a whole world of music out there.
