Gun store opening next door to Franklin Sherman Elementary in Mclean

I don't see how this store can legally be made to move - it's a legal business that has received all its permits to operate. Future permits may also not be rejected for arbitrary reasons. Even if they pass legislation or change zoning laws to not allow a gun shop to operate so close to a school, the concept of grandfathering comes into play, especially when it comes to zoning laws, which is a lot easier to put through than new legislation. So in the mean time, the politicians can posture and claim that they will do everything in their power to make the gun shop move, not mentioning the fact that they really have very little power to actually accomplish this. This is grandstanding at its best. They are putting on a show, for people like you, they are "liking" or "retweeting" your concerns, so that you'll vote for them on election day.

I have a son at the school. You might be right about grandfathering and I might be stuck with a gun shop next to my son's school for his entire elementary school career. Obviously I am hoping for a different outcome. But if the end result of this effort is to allow a VA community some control over their zoning laws (even if this gun shop has to stay next to my kid's school), I will feel like it is a small step in the right direction. And will happily vote the politicians in that try to help out.

People like me are the reason that Barbara Comstock is our representative. I tend to vote Democratic (but voted for our previous republican incumbent). But I tend to only vote in Presidential years. This has spurred me to vote against Comstock when she is next up for reelection.

Well said! Here's the press release today from numerous local politicians pledging to work for this store's relocation. Comstock, of course, is silent.

Who cares that car is the fastest ticket to the hospital,

Who cares about that?

So odd how little these people really care about safety.
But political agendas certainly do matter.

Our Virginia Democratic Governor is indeed a proud gun owner. Just ask him!

No, you are just ignorant. Comstock is the 10th Congressional District representive in Congress. THAT MEANS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT STUFF. A local gun shop moving or local zoning issues is not in her purview, which is why she isn't involved. This matter falls to Foust - who has disappeared from the scene. You do know that even the McLean Patch isn't covering this anymore?

What a compelling argument.

I find it particularly odd that even though the issue is over and no one is protesting at the gun shop, that some group of anti-gun nuts are now hurling insults at the McLean parents. Negligence? Being given cars at 16? Parents not around? These issues don't even relevant to the issue of the location of the gun shop. Sore losers.

Uh that release is from last week and Comstock doesn't have jurisdiction in this matter. This issue is not even being discussed on the McLean Patch.

So what? Some of the McLean residents who don't want a gun shop next to an elementary school are gun owners. Some of them might even be *gasp* republicans. What does that have to do with anything?

Since when was the McLean Patch covering anything other than food inspections? Granted, it's probably heavy reading for some gun owners, but not many McLean residents pay any attention to it.

Perhaps you missed Miss Vicky's petition. She demanded that the shop get out of McLean. As a newcomer, she doesn't know that most McLean property owners have at least one gun.

Democrat Governor McAuliffe owns more than one gun, and he isn't shy to tell you so. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Foust owned a few as well. Of course he wouldn't want to get clobbered, so why tell you?

Please provide the statistics that establish that most McLean property owners own at least one gun. Otherwise you were just talking out of your ass again.

And, of course, one can own guns and still not want them sold 100 feet from an elementary school.

Isn't McAuliffe's wife listed as the first person explaining her reasons for signing the petition?

Barbara Favola is one of the most intelligent speakers I have heard. Very knowledgeable and very smart. Ask her about the recent republican driven fiasco over Medicaid for the virginian western hospitals.

How any democrat could vote for Comstock is beyond me. Maybe a neighbor but no one that read anything about her, like how she voted to shut the gov down with the rest of the republicans.
