You mean promote a long term assistant coach and teacher whose only other coaching experience was in lacrosse-poor Northern California? And then add a disaffected grad of a rival school to be the brains behind the offense? There has to be a better way to go than that. |
If the prep administration really doesn’t care about their lax program as some homers have pointed out then why would they push out Urick this late in the summer?
Objectively speaking, the Hoyas win- loss record during his time wasn’t bad at all. they won the IAC titles. Clearly something has been in the works for the past few months otherwise they wouldn’t fire / push someone out when school starts on less than 3 weeks. |
Did St. Johns have any players transfer out? |
I believe 3 2027s and 2 2028s |
Where did they go? |
Whoa! No one is saying that the powers that be at Prep don’t care. But they care about a lot of things and lacrosse certainly isn’t one of their top priorities. Especially when it isn’t badly broken as you point out. However, it’s possible that a number of factors came together such that they thought it was time for a change (absent any particular incident that triggered it like a near brawl in a bar.) The past two seasons were disappointing which no doubt upset some of the parents and those alumni who care about lacrosse. (I wouldn’t put too much weight on this as there are always some parents that are unhappy.) This year’s lacrosse recruiting haul might have been down with more than the usual number of the full pay kids opting for other schools. The coach may have accumulated very supporters on campus and a lot of critics. Not being well liked matters (Ask K. Giblin) So at the end of the school year, Prep leaders could have said, “We can do better”. Without a replacement in mind and with confidence that it won’t be hard to find a replacement that is at least as good, they fired Urick. So they’ll advertise the job, review the applicants and make a selection. It would probably be a good idea to get some of the alumni to participate in this both to get additional input and to share the blame if things go south. |
No they didn’t |
Did they put their names in the Transfer Portal? |
Landon has rebuilding to do after Bordley retired. Their 2019-20 classes were probably the weakest in 40 years, not to mention Covid. They still never fell out of the top 5 in DMV and have returned to national relevancy. Many have also observed their consistency and depth of coaching. While Prep can't follow that exact playbook and doesn't have the wealth of coaching talent internally, it's wild to take shots at Landon who have unquestionably been the DMVs best the last two years and the best over the last half century. |
Well for the first 15 years of Bordley, he had no real competition. Even GP didn’t pay any real attention to fielding a team until 1995.
Since then GP has been at least as good year in and year out. |
Got a coach yet? |
Which long term assistant at GP are they promoting? Maybe they can promote the guy who left bc he could no longer stand the politicing and parents. I think Dr. Q collar is ready. |
Shouldn’t be a problem. It’s only been a few days. A school that has won 14 of the past 16 Founders Cups will be OK. |
It shouldn't be, but the response was to the GP homers somehow trying to rationale the Landon staff isn't that good. Take care of your own house. |
Cool is that the trophy that golf tennis cross country swimming soccer all factors into? Sweet |
