If the prep administration really doesn’t care about their lax program as some homers have pointed out then why would they push out Urick this late in the summer? Objectively speaking, the Hoyas win- loss record during his time wasn’t bad at all. they won the IAC titles. Clearly something has been in the works for the past few months otherwise they wouldn’t fire / push someone out when school starts on less than 3 weeks.
Whoa! No one is saying that the powers that be at Prep don’t care. But they care about a lot of things and lacrosse certainly isn’t one of their top priorities. Especially when it isn’t badly broken as you point out. However, it’s possible that a number of factors came together such that they thought it was time for a change (absent any particular incident that triggered it like a near brawl in a bar.) The past two seasons were disappointing which no doubt upset some of the parents and those alumni who care about lacrosse. (I wouldn’t put too much weight on this as there are always some parents that are unhappy.) This year’s lacrosse recruiting haul might have been down with more than the usual number of the full pay kids opting for other schools. The coach may have accumulated very supporters on campus and a lot of critics. Not being well liked matters (Ask K. Giblin) So at the end of the school year, Prep leaders could have said, “We can do better”. Without a replacement in mind and with confidence that it won’t be hard to find a replacement that is at least as good, they fired Urick. So they’ll advertise the job, review the applicants and make a selection. It would probably be a good idea to get some of the alumni to participate in this both to get additional input and to share the blame if things go south.
