Institutional support? I guess what that includes: A compliant Admissions Office that allows a special set of academic standards for football “recruits”. Lots of Financial Aid which is actually de facto football scholarships. The source of this money is alumni who not only contribute but who also steer recruits to the school. A faculty willing to pass football players regardless of academic ability or interest. Remedial classes and courses. School leadership willing to make these investments and turn a blind eye to the corruption of the Admission and Financial Aid processes and whatever behavioral or disciplinary problems rear their heads. |
First Prep and all of the sudden Bullis. Come on! Prep has the opening does Bullis have one as well? |

Excellent troll, but no he didn't. |
AD at mcDonogh announced Austin Stewart had been promoted to Head Coach. |
Hilgartner to Stewart, a total lax bro with zero education experience. Don't think so. |
I doubt a program of McDonoghh's caliber would hire someone with zero head coaching experience.
The head coach job at McDonogh will attract nationwide attention. Its a more desirable job than the HC job at Prep (the only people who think differently are the Prep homers) |

The MIAA may be a better lacrosse conference than the IAC. And McDonough may have historically been better the Prep and may be today. But what's that got to do with the desirability of the head coaching job? Wouldn't that depend on the salary offered, the program budget and the latitude of action allowed? And the expectations of the school? Nationwide attention? Think about this critically. These jobs are not that well compensated. And moving from another location is expensive and disruptive. Have you noticed home prices and interest rates are extremely high? Prep just fired a guy whose record wasn't all that bad. GP dominated the IAC three years ago. So it's not like they can promise long term security. The expectations at McDonough are even higher. Why would an experienced, highly successful coach leave a good position and expose himself to all this change and risk? Why would they leave a situation in which they are reaping significant benefits from camps and clubs? That's why this GP rumor has always been highly suspect. GP is almost certainly going to do what the other DC area schools have done. Which is to publish the opportunity and select the applicant they think is best. The applicant pool is going to consist of college assistant coaches and coaches from "smaller" programs. They will be young enough and mobile enough to move here, if they aren't here already. Their resumes will be just as thin as that of the SJC and Landon coaches. |
Prep should hire one of the assistants at Landon. |
Going to prep. Unless MM has a more kids that would follow him bad hire. |
In reality, Landon has 4 coaches: the head coach, the former GP assistant, a defensive coordinator and a defensive assistant. The head coach is a full-time teacher and coach; Kubik left GP years ago and has no desire to be a head coach and is a newly hired full-time teacher, the defensive coordinator is the uncle of the 2 GP transfers who were told they weren't going to play and then became d1 recruits at Landon; and the defensive assistant who is the head football coach. The rest of the guys on the sideline are just "let's hustle" guys and aren't really contributing coaches. The D coordinator is a candidate for anyone but GP and maybe even McD, no one else. |
Landon has 10 coaches on the sidelines, its ridiculous. Not sure how many of them are paid, or full time teachers at the school or alums who are just giving back and volunteering.
Gonzaga also have an army of assistant coaches on their sideline as well. |
There may be 10 guys down there but they aren't head coach material for GP and barely contribute to the actual coaching. Once in awhile, there's a lax bro helping with faceoffs and an older dad helping with the goalies. They literally do much of nothing except give high fives. Point is, none are current head coach types for GP or anyone else except for schools like Sidwell or Georgetown Day. |
Whatever Landon is doing is clearly working.
Love or hate them, they get the best out of their players as they are bought in to whatever the coaches are preaching. Maybe Prep should try to replicate a staff that matches whatever the Bears are doing. Just a thought. |
