I don’t really care about her obsession with this guy, who clearly was not worthy; I’ve lived through my own relationships with guys like this in my 20s and it’s just…who cares.

A number of songs on Folklore and Evermore were clearly about Matty too though and had specific references to him, esp for fans of The 1975 who know tidbits about him. For example, he has a tattoo on the inside of his lip (ouch!) that he talked about back in 2015, so the lyric “I knew you’d linger like a tattoo kiss” was an obvious nod to him. In Maroon, she mentions getting drunk on his roommate’s rosé and hooking up. Cowboy Like Me was an obvious reference as well. Matty famously gave a speech about being a cowboy when accepting the NME Innovation Award with his band in early 2020:

“Farmers like to cultivate their thing and keep it the same, and cowboys like to go out and find new pastures. There are so many wonderfully talented people in this room and I don’t have any advice because I’m really scared and I feel really small, but my only advice would be, be a cowboy.”

who falls for this garbage?

Apparently Halsey, FKA Twigs and Taylor Swift did.
I think he was probably being honest in that speech. Matty’s stage persona is very different from who he is in real life (a sweetheart and hilarious). He is all confident, wild and free on stage.

He's also immature, narcissistic and an addict. He has addictive personality which means he love to get someone close and push them away because he can't handle the responsibility of loving someone other than himself.

We don’t know him well to pass judgement with such conviction. He is a *former* addict and only smokes pot occasionally now.

As for the immaturity & narcism, I don’t agree. Matty is very devoted to his band, and apparently one of the few musicians who shares all income with his bandmates evenly, even though he writes most of their songs and is the lead singer. He left Taylor last summer because he saw no sane, healthy way for them to be together. He knows how important fame is to her, and how important the band is to him. They were getting harassed daily.

And I love Taylor, but she is as immature and narcissistic as a 35-year old can be, so perhaps they would have been perfect for each other. At least Matty can read and think, unlike her current boyfriend.

Then why is The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived buying pills from friends of friends?

He also has a flask on stage.

He sings a song called Narcissist

Let’s just hope he get help before he dies.

Pills are not hard drugs. Many people regularly take Xanax and other benzos, barbiturates, Ambien etc. Musicians in particular are fond of molly.

Yes those are common drugs that musicians (and others) overdose on.

So which is it? We don't know him well or else we can state with certainty that he only smokes pot occasionally. You don't know anything for sure.

I didn’t say with certainty, did I? It is highly unlikely that Matty can tour for 18 months straight at age 33-34 while using hard drugs. And his vocals are good + he dances and moves the entire time.

The who
The Rolling Stones
Kurt cobain
Lil peep
Snoop
Grateful Dead
On and on and on

And every other band do, why not him?

You never know. A lot of young people experiment with drugs. Definitely lots and lots of musicians do. Some relapse; many do not.

He seems articulate and genuine, and last year he said in a bunch of interviews that he doesn't do drugs any more: https://www.tiktok.com/@mattyhealypropaganda/video/7376716126425730337

He doesn’t do heroin he does do drugs.

Whether Matty still does drugs or whether he walked out to protect her and himself or for no good reason, we don’t know and probably never will. Taylor however apparently knows him very well - “best friend”, “my twin”, 10 years - and she clearly loved him like crazy. He must have a lot of redeeming qualities to evoke such feelings of love and devotion.

I think they helped each other with their song writing and performance skills, among other things. I see a lot of similarities in video and stage set aesthetics, lyrics, melodies… She probably respects him highly for that to have happened.

You're idealizing an unhealthy attachment. No one really knows these people or what happened between them.

10 years of hit songs are a pretty good indication. From at least 5-6 songs on Reputation, through her next 5 albums, culminating with the majority of songs on TTPD. We don’t need to know the details to understand how important her feelings for Matty were.
He is The 1, End Game, Glitch, Maroon, August, Cardigan, Cowboy Like Me, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Illicit Affairs and dozens of others. That was not “a manic phase”, that was most of her adult life so far.

Taylor might have held MH in the front of mind for a decade while writing music. If so, "inspired" would be a generous way to describe it; I'd argue this falls firmly in the category of "obsessive." And no, that's not romantic, or even tragic in an adolescent, star-crossed, brokenhearted way, it's unhealthy.

But no one knows these people or what really happened.

Agree that she had more than just feelings for Marty. It was clear they loved each other.

Five songs about what she imagine might be possible with a limerance

Which culminated into an album of hate for men like him,

The smallest man who ever lived

She’s moved onto a guy who loves her, celebrates her and hold her up.

Bye-bye, Matty, nobody will remember your name in 18 months and I hope you live past that.

This romance runs deeper and longer than anyone imagined:
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/taylor-swift-secretly-reunited-with-the-1975s-matty-healy-to-write-music-on-midnights/ER3WCPXFWVB5RCSXGR4VXCIW3I/

I want to hear those buried Midnights tracks. And the Vault songs from Reputation, which no doubt are about Healy.

10 years of passionate, clandestine hookups and exchanges of lyrics and songs. Messy top lip kisses, twisted in bedsheets, "lovelorn and nobody knows."
Not 5 songs, more like 40+ songs. At least 17 on TTPD alone are about him.

Travis is fun and a warm body, nothing more. A good move-on drug. He is happy with her because of the fame & money.
