| This is all good theater for the DC crowd, but I really don’t think the rest of America cares. If it takes a few days to pick a speaker the practical impact is negligible. |
AV Club nerds, represent!! |
Sure. no one cares about anything, politics is all just a game. Failing to raise the debt ceiling limit was just a game, shutting the federal government for over a month was just a game, it's all just a game. |
They can’t even put their pants on, there’s no way they can go to work. |
| I know this is all fun and games, but God forbid there's an international crisis or domestic crisis at home and we have no elected house to address it |
Yep. |
Right. Because the House is usually so important and useful in those situations. (Eye roll) |
DP. Don't be so obtuse, it is important to have a functioning government at all levels to address issues |
|
I don't see that happening. I said something similar yesterday, but this is a Washington parlor game. If 60% of Americans 17 and over could name the most recent Speaker of the House I would be shocked. This matters to people who follow politics/the base of both parties. Dem voters don't want to see Hakeem Jeffries' name withdrawn or someone challenging him. What do Democrats gain by doing anything but remaining unified? |
Biden can handle whatever comes. |
this |
You don’t think people would know Pelosi was the most recent speaker? |
I’m PP and I don’t see that happening, so I’m wondering what scenario produces an Amash (or Bacon, or another moderate) nomination. |
| I don't know how this works, but if Jeffries has more votes than McCarthy, why isn't he the new Speaker? Why is the GOP able to keep taking vote after vote? Nothing is changing. Clearly I'm missing something here. |
