He is not an elected member of Congress. He has no immunity. Also, there are a few decent GOP members who would vote with Dems for a non-MAGA.

Yep, it's true. Liberals have zero sense of humor. Literals, all the way.

I think his biography claims he already was Speaker.

You failed to notice the three Republican Congressmen who were convicted of federal crimes in the past few years? Huh.

This guy who was cleaning the roofs of my condo complex told me months ago that the plan was for Trump to be speaker of the house and then they would impeach Biden and Harris and Trump would be president again. He claimed it was definitely in the works!

Some of it was being chronicled toward the end of this thread: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1093414.page but the House can’t have any priorities until there’s a Speaker. The members can’t even be sworn in without a Speaker.

I have zero sympathy for McCarthy but if has to give the store away, there is no point in being speaker.

Wouldn't it be "loverly" if GOPers have to get help from Dems to elect a speaker.

It will never not annoy me, how people in Congress use random capitalization so often. It makes them look illiterate.

So who wants to guess who's actually going to get the votes? Steve Scalise? Liz Cheney?

All Kevin cares about is the plaque with his name engraved on it.

I'm going to promote myself as next SOH -- I have as much chance as Mccarthy at getting the required votes.

No matter who they eventually elect as Speaker, this dance will be repeated for every significant vote in the House for the next two years. A rump group of Republicans will oppose everything unless they get concessions that would not be acceptable to other Members. McCarthy or Scalise or whomever won’t be able to deliver enough Republican votes for anything that would pass the Senate and be signed by the President. The Speaker will be held hostage by the lunatics in the Republican caucus.
