So what kind of King will Charles be?

New Zealand’s next, even after the Kiwi soldiers did that moving Hakka for the Prince and Princess of Wales when they thanked the military for participating in the Queen’s funeral

On a business note, I rent houses to the Australian military and will jack up the rent when they leave the Commonwealth. They will have much more disposable income.

This Australia, where 60% want to remain in the monarchy???

https://thenewdaily.com.au/life/royal-life/2022/09/13/monarchy-poll-strong-support/amp/

Yes, that Australia. Those monarchist polls are crap - they were saying no one wanted Charles a week before the Queen's death and two days after - majority approval! Anything to shore up that dying institution.

Oh and here's the New Zealand PM saying its inevitable.

It sounds like she was educating her constituents, that the process would be drawn out and they stood to lose much by dissolving the treaties. Tiny countries like New Zealand gain more than they give by this alliance. If not Britain, they’ll need to find another benefactor and protector. Not sure what their options are honestly.

LOL The U.S. does more for the Australia and New Zealand alliance. Did you forget we sold Australia multi-millions in nuke submarines in 2021? Call me when Britain does anything but drain their tax dollars dry.

LOL, come again? You mean we forced them to break their contract with France but have zero chance of producing anything for decades? The US is stretched thin at home and across the globe, New Zealand is 150 on the priority list. Australia a tad higher.

p.s. I linked to the Guardian lest you call me a Monarchist.

Hey if the big dogs come calling the world answers.

Yes, it appears the UK will come through for Australia and can deliver submarines by 2030.

Charlie strikes me as someone who thinks of himself as a very important person. He will interfere and not know his place in politics. The only hope for British monarchy to continue is that he doesn't live too long.

Even with the inevitability, the New Zealand PM had the good grace to honor the Queen by wearing a proper hat to her funeral rather than an 8 year old child's headband.

And Australia does quite bit for the US. Half the forces I treated in Afghanistan were Aussies who were more than happy to eviscerate a Taliban as quickly as they did it to a sheep.

Charlie is a very important person.

He has known not to interfere in politics from his childhood.

The British monarchy has survived far worse than "Charlie" -- as one would know had they any knowledge of even basic history.

That was awesome. “Give it back then, love.”

Yes! I thought Michael Sheen was absolutely right here, I bet Charles just didn't think about the celebrations being cancelled at all. From the news article: Owain Glyndŵr day and the King's visit are "obviously connected" according to Sheen, who said: "Because of course to choose September 16 to come to Wales having only a short time ago proclaimed that he had created his son William as the new Prince of Wales and to choose this this day September 16 to come here as his first visit as King seems full of meaning." If it had been chosen deliberately, "it seems insensitive to the point of insulting," Sheen said before continuing: "If it was done without realising the significance of the date then one does wonder what being Prince of Wales for so long actually meant if you're not aware of what that day means."

Sheen was also in the news recently for a stirring speech he gave on TV for Wales' football team -- if you missed this earlier you're in for a treat: https://prosoccerwire.usatoday.com/2022/09/10/michael-sheen-wales-world-cup-speech/

Meh, Wales doesn't care enough to make September 16 a national holiday.

Why didn’t the Queen give it away after Prince Philip died?

As the eldest son of Prince Phillip, Charles inherited the Duke of Edinburgh title. Now he’s King, he can give it to Edward.

DP. He could have before too. He doesn’t want to. He doesn’t like either of his brothers.

Anonymous wrote:Duke of Edinburgh, named after the city of Edinburgh in Scotland, is a substantive title that has been created three times since 1726 for members of the British royal family. It does not include any territorial landholdings and does not produce any revenue for the title holder.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_of_Edinburgh

There are decades where no one had the title. Charles may not give it to anyone.

I think the issue is that supposedly Edward wasn’t made a Duke at his wedding on the expectation that he would become Duke of Edinburgh after Phillip died and now Charles is like “nope”.

DP. Charles could have rejected the inheritance of the Edinburgh title and asked his mother to bestow it on his brother. He didn't.
