Loud ATV drivers at night? City government? Police?

Sorry that we didn’t consult the chair of the What Are Not Key Engagement Results (WANKER) department!

Pray, do tell. What are the key areas for engagement and results? There can only be one, right? I gather from you that in DC it’s the abortion rights?

You heard it here from the man himself, it’s the Abortion folks and not the ATVs! What side of the abortion debate are you on?

Visit WANKER at dc.gov to find out all the issue that are not the ONE and ONLY issue one must work on in DC. Which apparently is abortion.

You heard it here first. Why don’t you get busy with that, while we tackle ATVs and make change happen in DC

I suggest we abort this sidebar and get back to ATVs and dirt bikes, which are a net negative in residential areas or nature preservation areas. So I’m guessing we can find a nice big industrial area for them to play. Win win

They do not belong in the residential areas. Children are affected the most. Low income families are affected disproportionately because of where they live and where the ATV activity occurs.

“Loud ATV exhaust noise has become an issue both medically and environmentally. The threshold of permanent hearing damage, as set by the OSHA, is 85 dB. A gas-powered lawn mower produces 85 dB. The snowmobile industry cannot, under U.S. law, exceed 78 dBs at full throttle, and since 1979 motorcycle manufacturers must stay between 78 and 84 dB. However, most ATVs are between 85 and 100 dBs, which has led to concerns by both riders and non-riders about excessive noise.” – How to Quiet ATV Exhaust Noise (A Practical Guide)
How does one reduce the noise to 65 decibels at the property line? The answer is distance, but how much distance? Here’s a guideline:
“Doubling the distance between the highway and residence will result in a noise level reduction of approximately 4.5 decibels, depending on the surface composition over which the noise is traveling.”
So, at 50 feet from the property line, 95 decibels becomes 91. At 100 feet, it is 87. At 200 feet, it is 84 – at the threshold for permanent hearing damage.

That IS the issue.

+1 we live in Shaw and have for nearly 20 years. Two kids. This must stop. Period. It is insanity and it literally helps no one. The men on the bikes may lose their lives or their limbs. The people who live in these neighborhoods like us are losing sleep, sanity, and a sense of security in our own homes. The noise us house shaking and ear shattering. Add to that the terrible throbbing bass with no music — just the bass like your eardrums are about to burst. If i were religious, Id pray for this madness to end. If i were rich, Id move.

Worth repeating over and over again until the DC government hears us.

# of people outaged/angry: a handful

Lots of other bigger and more important quality of life issues for most people, particularly violent crime.

That's right! We can only fix one issue at a time. We need to figure out which one is the most important. Come back in two years.

I dont understand what you’re saying. An atmosphere of lawlessness and blatant disregard for others’ safety leads to violent crime. Did you see the shooting at tysons— in the mall yesterday? Our civilization is coming undone at the seams. Militias rolling through my neighborhoods were not what i expected to see when I supported liberal Democrats, which is what Ive always considered myself. Turns out, Im much more moderate. Im concerned about noise and violent crime and all of my neighbors. And yes, the lives of children and the elderly matter more to me than young men who dgaf and blaze through our neighborhoods popping wheelies and car jacking.

A recent shooting involving unidentified suspects riding ATVs that left a man seriously injured has brought up both new and old concerns about ATV crime in D.C. “There’s not to be any person driving an ATV or dirt bike in the District of Columbia. We were frustrated by the fact that that crime was allowed to continue.” News4’s Darcy Spencer reports on the issue.

The one issue/abortion PP is a shill for Nadeau who, of all the things that she could be working on in DC us introducing a bill to strengthen the already very strong abortion rights in DC. Because if you draw up a bill to support something that’s already in place, you can’t lose right?

Meanwhile, heavens forbid she tackle things like illegal rentals, schools, crime, ATVs and dirt bikes, food security etc.

Dirt Biker Shot at Driver Who Honked at Group Blocking Traffic: DC Police

The victim traveled northbound as the suspect allegedly kept shooting at him, police say

The man told WUSA9 he tried to get away from the riders when they surrounded him on the road.
"They just stopped and suddenly, they kind of ambushed me and I tried to move away," he said. "They still followed me and I tried to roll down the window to let them know that's not correct. I tried to talk them down. I just told them, 'Do you think what you're doing is correct?'"
The victim said questioning them eventually led to the shooting. He did not realize he was shot until after he drove another mile and stopped to speak to police officers at Iverson Mall.
"It could have been much worse," he added. "I'm lucky to be alive."
While owning all-terrain vehicles are allowed, riding them on public property is against the law.
However, illegal vehicles on the streets continues to be a problem in D.C. with a bigger demand for the city to crack down on the issue.

I should have known they were armed. Terrifying.

The gas station approach is smart. I hope it helps.

Just was on U St. Quieter than it’s ever been since 2020. The police pedestrianized the street to allow for a safe celebration and people are having a really good time. No screaming ATVs. It can happen.
