Penelope and Eloise's fight was one of my favorite scenes of the season.

But it made me hate Penelope. Idk how they will rehabilitate her.

Kate looks like a Rajendran tribe and edwina looks like a Singh.

His ears sticking out was getting to me. But intense acting, even distracting considering he’s gay.

It would have been nice if dress colors had occasionally changed. All that money and the dressmaker organizes each household by fabric color!

I thought the turmeric scene was weird because these Indian girls act completely British ton society at all other times except for the nicknames and bangles. Then all of a sudden they need to incorporate something ethnic? The other non-White characters don’t do anything different, I just thought it was a weird switch. Are we having multiracial characters or not?

Agree. The small random attempts to slide in “Indian cultural norms” was utterly bizarre, distracting and completely unwarranted. These books are about the English regency not Indian culture.

Yes. Why did the show move in this direction?

I imagine because the books were all written about white people. And they felt like they had to explain why some indian people were suddenly part of the Ton. Kind of like how they wrote the backstory in season 1 for the Duke's father and the Queen. It's all obviously not based in fact or reality, but I just think they did a better job of explaining the changes last season than this one.

also - indian person here - what bothered me was the accents. Kate has an indian accent. That makes sense because she grew up in India. Her mom doesn't have an indian accent and that makes sense because she grew up in England. But Edwina literally switches between an indian accent and a british accent the whole time which really annoys me - just make up your mind. Personally to stay consistent, i think she should have an indian accent since she grew up in india too.

Actually, I think it does make sense, and this happens today. People who grew up in an area with a strong accent but who are "educated" can speak in both "accents". This also happened back then where people who grew up uneducated, then became educated had elocution lessons to drop the "uneducated" accent and spea

Code switching. Made sense. I liked the pre wedding tumeric scene. Weddings are a time when all sorts of traditions come out in real life, too.

She gets some comeuppance, in a way, in later books.

How tall was Kate? She seems taller than Anthony so the later kissing scenes, seemed more like a smash up. Not tender, not frantic, not passionate somehow…

She's 5'10" and he's 5'11".

I know a lot is fictionalized and not meant to be historical. How much truth is there behind

-a courting season? Is that just when most people were in town so most engagements happen then?

-the queen randomly showing up at citizens' balls?

-the diamond?

-needing to marry when caught unchaperoned?

-a gossip rag?

How old are you people where the woman being slightly taller than the guy is still a dealbreaker?

He was great for the part.

all true, but the queen playing such a huge part is not as accurate in most cases, I think.

"The season" was real. It was originally tied to when Parliament was in session so all the wealthy landowners were all in town (either as Peers in the House of Lords or wealthy elected people in Commons)..

Queen randomly showing up? Not so accurate. The Prince Regent at the time was pretty flagrant in his behavior.

The diamond? Fiction. There were definitely high status women but nothing that official.

Needing to marry when caught unchaperoned? So this is one of those things that officially is true in etiquette publications but probably skirted quite a bit in real life. The reality is it was more that families were extremely protective of their daughters snd their reputations because it was like protecting an economic asset.

Gossip rags? Very real and even more vicious than portrayed on the show.
