Haters Gonna Hate, but Centers are here to stay (with busing)

Karen Garza's budget for next year contains no cuts to AAP Centers or associated transportation (or anything else). It increases teacher compensation and decreases class size.

Condolences to the AAP haters who have been stalking this board for months salivating over the prospect of Centers being dismantled. Not gonna happen. Period. Done. Moving on....

What is the difference between her budget and the actual likely budget?

Could be zero, could be huge-- but nothing in her presentation indicated that she was willing to touch, restructure, cut, etc. AAP.

Astute politcal move, put the decisions of the what to cut where on the school board.

Hi, quick question, could you let me know if any major things were cut like immersion? Where can I find the information? Thank you for your time!

So then what is being cut in her proposed budget? Recognizing, of course, that she isn't the actual decision maker.

I don't see anything cut??? I see a reduction in elementary school class sizes and an increase in employee compensation (to begin lessening the salary gap between our county and the counties around us). This is an overview, I can't seem to find the actual budget.

these aren't the cuts, she asking for more money than last year, actually 150 million budget deficit, but the budget cuts will come later.

"Unless the county can come up with an additional $67 million to give to the school system, the school board will have to curtail Garza’s spending plan or begin to look for cuts themselves."

+1

The only democratic school board member got voted out in the last election was publicly against AAP center. And he got replaced by a member who is a strong supporter for AAP center and TJ.

Having a strong AAP program is good for your property value, quality of living, and good preparation for your kids in case you want to go private in high school.

This is called not understanding the process and/or counting chickens before the hatch.

Unless the county can come up with an additional $67 million to give to the school system, the school board will have to curtail Garza’s spending plan or begin to look for cuts themselves. Nothing, is certain re AAP centers or busing to said centers.

I'm not a hater, but AAP could still be cut. This is a proposed budget that asks for an increase. We will likely not be given this amount. Cuts will have to be made when the actual budget is determined.

Garza stated the most important issues are class size and teacher compensation. It appears the cuts will be to something other than these areas. The release mentions the budget task force recommendations if cuts are needed. In both the 50 and 75 million scenario, eliminating transportation to AAP centers was proposed. We will have to wait to see what the school board decides with the budget.

She is playing good cop and the board will be bad cop, off the record the board has the aap cuts ready to go when the denial of additional funds occurs
