| Was it ever? Am I going insane? Why a half day before Thanksgiving break but not Christmas Eve? All the VA, DC and private schools are all already done. |
| Small private in MD and we have a full day tomorrow. |
| Why are you still going to school on the 23rd? |
| I also thought it was a half day, OP! |
| It is, isn't it? I copied all the closures and half days into my calendar from the MCPS site. Going to check the website now. |
| This is the PP. I found on several school websites reminders that the 23rd is a full day of school. At some point someone must have screwed up and posted an incorrect calendar. I did not pull that out of thin air. I'm an organized person and made note of the all the closures and half-days back in August. God, MCPS just sucks. I see the super rich people at our school in Bethesda and wonder why they don't do private. Private schools have been off this whole week. I'd rather have a real Xmas vacation than all those random days off. |
No. It was never a half day this year. People assumed half day because the Wed before Thanksgiving is a half day. |
This the pp again. No, I never made that assumption. My kid is in K and I did not pull what I wrote on my calendar out of thin air since I had no prior experience to go on. I copied it from the MCPS website. |
| I did the same at some point over the summer and I have no 1/2 day recorded for tomorrow. If it is such a big deal to you, pull your child out. It is kindergarten. Personally I think the break is long enough. Kids will be antsy by the end. |
| This is not a huge deal. Virginia schools are already on break because they didn't have all the Jewish holidays off in the fall. They also go to school later in the summer than we do. We have to get our days in somehow. If this eats into your plans, pull your kids out for a few days, this isn't worth "sending kids to private" over. |
| Me too. I saw it somewhere and put it in my phone diary. Then I was trying to check this was correct, just in case and an email came through from the school offering confirming it was a full day. So there must have been a lot of enquiries about it. |
|
Of course MCPS is always wrong. It is the only possible explanation though thousands of other parents and staff never saw this half-day listed and in the past, MCPS has issued a formal letter to address calendar errors.
|
You copied it into your calendar wrong, therefore MCPS is awful? |
|
OP, I'm a Virginia parent who is wondering why we have such a long winter break when there is always the likelihood of snow days. I love having my child home but think she should have been in school Mon-Wed this week.
December 25th is the holiday. The schools are closed for Christmas Eve which is the day before the holiday, in the same way that schools close for a half day or full day before Thanksgiving. It sounds like you're like me, and begin the celebrations on Christmas Eve so I do understand. Merry Christmas! |
| No, it was never listed as a half day and has never been a half day in our 6 years with MCPS. |
