Why did I think the 23rd was a half day in MCPS?

A particular school may have had it wrong on their website.

I did not pull that out of thin air. I'm an organized person and made note of the all the closures and half-days back in August. God, MCPS just sucks. I see the super rich people at our school in Bethesda and wonder why they don't do private. Private schools have been off this whole week. I'd rather have a real Xmas vacation than all those random days off.

I have a feeling you are one of those that thinks everything sucks unless it has your stamp of approval. Maybe those "super rich" people in your area send their kids to MCPS because they don't think it sucks just because they are open on the 23rd? What a stupid reason to think a school district sucks.

BTW, I looked at my calendar from last year, and the 23rd wasn't a half day. I'm super organized regarding the school calendar, too.

By all means, pull your snowflake out of school early today and don't go tomorrow.

As a working parent, and part of a two-working-parent family, I'm very happy that the kids have full days of school three days this week. We can't afford to do luxurious out-of-town trips for winter break, spring break, and the summer, so longer breaks mean more child-care expenses and more vacation/sick days used, giving us less flexibility during the year for snow days, kids' sick days, etc.

A half-day is great if you're traveling but otherwise I don't really see the point.

Whoa. Chips on shoulder, much? (different PP shocked by your mean spiritedness.) Do you have a Harvard PhD by any chance...?

OP, I had it down as a half day too. I will be pulling my kid out at noon so we can get on the road before traffic.

PG and Frederick both have OFF tomorrow. Why is MCPS going a full day? That is terrible. I feel worse for the teachers and staff.

Why shouldn't they? They are already off for a week and a half. They're in school to learn. (And no comments about how the last day is a waste, because while I agree it is, it would be a waste if it was December 23, 22, 21, or 15th).

Why not? I mean that sincerely. There is a full day of school on the 23rd. There is no school on the 24th. Christmas is on the 25th.

I don't understand how you think I have a chip on my shoulder for what I stated. But no, I don't have a Harvard PhD.. what an odd thing to assume. I don't live in Bethesda, either.

You're not alone, OP. I also saw something somewhere online in recent weeks that indicated a half-day. I panicked a bit, because we hadn't made arrangements, but then when I checked again last week it was a full day. Odd - don't know where I saw it, but clearly saw it somewhere.

There was a similarly mean-spirited poster who banged on about her PhD from Harvard, certificate framed on the wall behind her. Very boring but left an impression. Someone on another thread wanted to nominate her for biggest douche bag posting on DCUM. Thought you might be her.

Not alone OP; I checked and thought there was a half day too. Might as well pull the kids out. Just one day.

Add me to the list of those you thought it was a half day. I checked last week again and saw it was full day.
