I also thought it was a half day, but definitely imagined it because I just checked my master calendar and it is clearly marked as a full day on the calendar I created at the beginning of the year.
Sometimes your mind plays games with you. |
Because they are the only district in the entire area that IS going on a full day of school. Most have off and the ones that don't have a half day. I went to public and for 12yrs I never went to school a full day on the 23rd. It is extremely odd. |
Thank you for being honest. MCPS has issues, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. |
I don't think "but all the other kids do it" is much of an argument. |
I'm a teacher. I needed all three full days of instruction this week. Our last instructional day is 1/13. Your children don't want to do work over Winter break. So, I'm glad there isn't a half day tomorrow. However, I appreciate your concern. |
But WHY is it odd? Just because other kids in other districts get out 3 days if not 7 days before a major Christian holiday? |
| I've been with mcps for 15 years and the last day before winter break has not been a 1/2 day in any of those years. As someone who is hosting Christmas Eve at my house, I'd love the 23 to, at least, be a 1/2 day but sadly it isn't. Oh well. |
| Take a peak at next years calendar. There is a FULL week of school before the weekend holiday! Vacation is only 1 week + 1 day. Meanwhile my Arlington friends wish they had MoCos schedule. |
| So now we have to have a 1/2 day on the 23rd to accommodate people having Chrismtas Eve at their houses or traveling???? Outrageous. School is already closed the 24th and the entire week after Christmas. Enough is enough. Shame on you people. |
| I wonder if the people bitching about the long length of Christmas vacation are Jewish...who complains about vacation being too long? There is no other holiday of the year like Christmas and I hate that there is no time to enjoy the lead-up. The 26th and beyond are anti-climatic. I'd sacrifice some of the week between Christmas and New Years for more time to be with my family beforehand. I HATE that I do most of the preparations in a state of frenzy. |
There is no need to be anti-Semetic. --a Catholic MCPS teacher whose DD's private started break today |
Any parent that needs to work and needs to scramble for child care. |
If it is Winter Break, you are not scrambling for child care unless you dropped the ball the prior August. The dates were there well in advance (DCUM rumors to the contrary). Plan accordingly for next year. |
|
I thought it was a half-day too. BUT I decided to pull 10 year old DS out of school this morning anyway, when I heard he was going to watch movies and do nothing... We are going to museums, and it will surely be more educational! |
