Italy has 50,000 people in lockdown. Police are patrolling the 11 affected towns for enforcement.

People in the affected areas must queue for groceries--only 40 people at a time may enter a store.

Milan is closing all its schools.

Giorgio Armani cancelled his Fashion Week show on Sunday and showed his collection to an empty room, streamed on the designer's website.

It is no less safe to be surrounded by Chinese people in the US than it is to be surrounded by people of any other race right now. Is there a chance someone has been to China? Yes, but people in this area of all races travel to China on business so you can’t determine likelihood of infection by the color or their skin.
Visit your favorite Chinese restaurant. They need our support to overcome the prejudice and fear that is keeping people away.

Also, besides Tylenol and Advil, what meds to stock up on?

Meds - whatever you normally take, prescription or otherwise.

Food - doesn’t have to be non perishable bc this isn’t a storm but with perishables you’ll have to use them and replace so ppl tend to non perishables with this stuff. I’m thinking — pasta, rice, lentils, peanut butter, nuts, granola bars, oil/seasonings bc plain pasta would get old. But honestly what’s stopping you from getting some fun stuff too — favorite cookies or candy, tea, coffee, jam etc. Frozen veggies. Frozen meals if you eat those.

Household cleaners, soap — I expect you’d want to shower a lot.

In theory yes but probably wise to have some food that does not have to be cooked or refrigerated because if for some reason the electricity goes then what will you do. Chewing on dry raw pasta and sipping tomato sauce is only funny for the first few minutes.

Now the crazies are coming out. Can you please explain how Coronavirus is going to impact the availability of electricity?
It’s like some people are hoping to see bare shelves on the news when we literally have no solid evidence of immediate danger in this country right now. Possibility, yes. Evidence, no.

I didn't realize how long a winter break these schools got around Lunar New Year. It's over a month?

Their calendar is different from ours. Winter break is 4 weeks. Then summer break is shorter than ours at like 6-8 weeks. The school year is usually halves with a long break between then.

In some Asian schools it is two five week breaks (one in winter, one in summer) separating semesters. The idea of our really long summer and short winter break is odd to them.

Is there logic to be where there is a less likelihood of ppl visiting China? Maybe. I’ve been to American franchises asian restaurants. Prob won’t go to dim sum or anything else until this is over

Moscow targets Chinese with raids amid virus fears
Russian authorities are going to significant lengths to keep the virus in China from surfacing in Moscow

Moscow officials ordered police raids of hotels, dormitories, apartment buildings and businesses to track down the shrinking number of Chinese people remaining in the city. They also authorized the use of facial recognition technology to find those suspected of evading a 14-day self-quarantine period upon their arrival in Russia.

“Conducting raids is an unpleasant task, but it is necessary, for the potential carriers of the virus as well,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a statement outlining various methods to find and track Chinese people the city approved as a virus prevention strategy.

The effort to identify Chinese citizens on public transportation applies not only to buses, but underground trains and street trams in Moscow, Russian media reported Wednesday.

Metro workers were instructed to stop riders from China and ask them to fill out questionnaires asking why they were in Russia and whether they observed the two-week quarantine, the reports said. The forms also ask respondents for their health condition and the address of where they are were staying.
