Fire in upper NW?

The whole thing is so twisted. So many people involved over such a long period of time. I feel like if we can figure out what happened, maybe we can save them. Ridiculous, I know. So much contact with people out of the house, and yet, no one got tipped off that they needed help. So frustrating. And to think that each of the four most likely walked unknowingly into that trap, one by one. And most likely the HK and then Amy were probably forced to lure the others into the trap. Unimaginable terror.

Were the car and panel truck from night Wint was apprehended, impounded at that point as evidence? Or did the others get to drive away in them when they were released?

-----> As far as French style doors, look at photos of house. There are several full-length French doors that function as windows. Where did that photo of door with boot print come from? It looks like a solid door -- maybe around back? In that vintage home, you often see French doors because when open they provided greater ventilation since the homes weren't originally air conditioned, but usually they had glass panes.

-----> I've always felt someone (HK?) was walking the dogs when perps entered the house or garage. They hid until HK came back. She more than likely left dogs in yard since its been said they loved being out -- lucky for Wint/ perps -- no confrontation with dogs. Wint/ perps took HK and PS hostage and had HK call Amy with a ruse to get her home.

Someone saw car come up the street very fast and it was left out front, which was not the norm. Sounds like a panicked mother to me. She enters the house and now Wint has three hostages. He has AS call SS, saying she has to go out, to get him home. And we know the rest. In that situation he couldn't get to gun, and martial arts wasn't going to be effective with the AS, PS, and HK hostage, probably with knives to their throats.

-----> I just hope the police get all of the perps. I think Wint is arrogant enough to think he's going to get off. He's gotten off pretty easy for his past crimes. He's not going to be too popular with the other prisoners, and that may scare him more than any death penalty. I bet they have him in solitary confinement right now for his safety.

This is a very interesting site. It is very helpful to read your posts and contribute -- helping me grieve and process something so horrific -- as many of you have said. It's a place to come in my sorrow and know you all are out there just as enraged, frustrated, sorrowful, and concerned.

Blessings to all of you. ?? God bless Abigail and Katarina.

You sound smart and bring new interesting ideas to the table. I do think there are more perps out there, and, especially as someone who lives in the neighborhood, I want them locked up ASAP. This is for sure one of the most horrific things I can ever imagine happening to a family. (My worst nightmare personally.)

Text messages found by police and obtained by The Washington Post show that Wallace sent a text to Savopoulos at 8:30 p.m. May 13: “Got your message, I’ll call you once I get the package.”

The next day, police said, Wallace texted and called several people, including a woman, to whom he sent a photo of the red bag and money at 9 a.m. “Daaaamn,” the woman responded. “I wonder how much it is?” Wallace responded, “40,” to which the woman texted back, “Jesus.”

At 10:26 a.m., the police records show, Wallace texted Savopoulos: “Package delivered.”

Wallace then drove to Virginia to work on one of his bosses’ projects, a martial arts studio. The fire was discovered about 1:15 p.m., and police say Wallace was in Chantilly at the time. He learned about the fire from someone at American Iron Works, and he texted Amy and Savvas Savopoulos several times as he drove to their home.

“Hey ms Amy are you ok, if so you need to get home I got a call that your house is on fire,” police records say he wrote.

By that time, police said, the family was already dead.

Sketchy as hell. (He could have played a role in this without ever planning on murder.)

Yes, horrifying terror and helplessness. What a sick bastard Wint is, along with any accomplices he may have had.

Hey I remember the Robert Wone case, that was terrible too. So bizarre and frustrating that no one has ever been held accountable in his killing. I hope that will not be the case here.

I guess, though, what makes this worse in my mind is that there were FOUR victims, including a child.

Is it possible the police didn't notice this broken door and boot print until recently (i highly doubt this, surely this would be one of the first things they did was check all the doors and windows for signs of a break in)? or were they keeping this information to themselves til now for some reason? this is so obvious it seems crazy that the killer(s) didn't try to cover it up somehow since they did seem to try to cover their tracks otherwise, why not try to cover up the bootprint which could be traced to the shoes (and thereby, to the killer) worn during the crime?

strange. this case just gets weirder and weirder and sadder and sadder.

That looks like an inside doo, not an exterior door. Look at the door knob.

Nope, we used to live in a similar house of the same era nearby and all of our basement doors had those same knobs with deadbolts about 6 inches above them. The actual knobs didn't lock, only the deadbolts did.

Yes, exactly. It looks like an old (maybe original?), probably rarely used back, side, or garage door. The lock would be a deadbolt above the knob (not pictured). Definitely not an interior door. The doorknob is old and worn - I'm sure in a house this expensive, the owners had nice hardware on their interior doors. For the posters who were talking about wallpaper...what?? I don't see any wallpaper. I think the news got it wrong, like they've got many things wrong already in this case, when they said French doors.

Yes, it looks like a side door to a garage. We have a similar one.

I'm thinking maybe this door was actually kicked in after the crime when Wint was leaving the scene since the murdered housekeeper's husband didn't apparently see any broken windows/doors or anything amiss when he went looking for her Thurs morning and also since the killer likely wouldn't want to have such a visible sign of something being wrong present for 20 hours or however long they were in the house. Maybe he kicked in the door on his way out to make it look like a forced entry.

Doors were kicked in..not out..boot print was on the outside..that is how they got in..I guess the doors would be in the back of the home? Question what happen to their Dog(s) Wish DC would bring back the chair..this has to be one of the worst if not the worst murder case in the history of the USA

no, not even in dc. how many people with child (though perhaps low income) held in homes and terrorized and killed by intruder in last decade in dc. More than one. perhaps the motive was different. perhaps the imagined payout smaller. This one seems especially egregious because the family was living a charmed, ideal life. But that doesn't make their deaths somehow worse than other s who have died like they died.

I do wish there was the death penalty (though I am against it) as a bargaining took to make the guy talk. But not because this crime is worse than the many others like it because the family is richer and more favored by fate and life circumstance. A life is a life. A night of terror is a night of terror.

I doubt the death penalty would be much of a bargaining tool with a monster like Wint or with most heartless killers...I really doubt most people capable of torturing and murdering people, esp. children, would really care that much about facing the death penalty, especially since most of the time when the death penalty is used it takes years and years and tons of appeals for it to be carried out. It is not an effective method of bargaining, in cases like this, IMO.

Respectfully disagree. Even Ted Bundy finally started to tell the truth as his execution drew near to try to live a little longer.

I thought the original (bad) point was that we care about this case because they were rich (or white or whatever). In fact this is actually an unimaginably bad thing that happened to this poor family. There is no similarity to the Wone case whatsoever. I literally can't imagine a worse death than to experience my child hearing me being tortured or beaten to death and to hear my child being beaten and tortured and then he is burned alive.

Please stfu if you just want to make a point about money or race.

Assistant sounding innocent based on his texts. Just not realizing the gravity of the situation he was in.
Could also be possible he shared too much info. About his boss to whomever, but that does not make him guilty of anything criminal.
Door knob and solid wood panel inset door does appear to be same period as the house. Guessing early 30's.
Hopefully, Wint is in isolation and they work on him day and night until he squeaks...

-----> thank you for response. I've found it interesting that my posts don't get much attention. I hope friends of the Savoloupuses read my post last night about loving the girls forever -- for the rest of their lives. It matters a lot.

I've always lived in preWWII homes in DC. Think this door may have glass panes above, where we can't see in photo. My kitchen door was like that in both my Chevy Chase homes. Panel(s) on lower part and six panes above. Free door knob with deadbolt above knob, which we would also not be able to see in this photo. I think someone is misusing the term French door, thinking a door with lites is a French door.

My heart goes out to you living in "the neighborhood." I'm sure you are feeling this more profoundly than most others. It's very frightening even if it was a targeted hit. How could people be so savage? I keep thinking I'm going to wake up after reading all these posts and the press to find it was a BBC murder mystery, and not real. It's too horrendous to be true... But it is.

Once it was discovered that some of the money was missing then SS was on the phone to the assistant (his last call) to find out what happened to the rest of it but it was too late.

I was thinking the same thing.. but today police released cell phone text of the assistant JW and he sent a photo of the $40,000 to his girlfriend around 9:30am or so..and he said there was 40 inside when asked by girlfriend JW cell phone records are being investigated also

I was thinking his sending that to girl friend to say something to the effect of" jeez, look at this ***t , I do for my boss...as though he knew he was dealing with some crazy stuff. She seems impressed...then he goes back to work on the martial arts studio job....and later texts AS out of concern. Seems pretty innocent...
Phone records may be for more accurate time line which could be used in multiple ways. Where were cars at what time....etc...
