Fire in upper NW?

Police will not say why Wallace had two versions of his account. Text messages found by police and obtained by The Washington Post show that Wallace sent a text to Savopoulos at 8:30 p.m. May 13: “Got your message, I’ll call you once I get the package.”

The next day, police said, Wallace texted and called several people, including a woman, to whom he sent a photo of the red bag and money at 9 a.m. “Daaaamn,” the woman responded. “I wonder how much it is?” Wallace responded, “40,” to which the woman texted back, “Jesus.”

At 10:26 a.m., the police records show, Wallace texted Savopoulos: “Package delivered.”

Wallace then drove to Virginia to work on one of his bosses’ projects, a martial arts studio. The fire was discovered about 1:15 p.m., and police say Wallace was in Chantilly at the time. He learned about the fire from someone at American Iron Works, and he texted Amy and Savvas Savopoulos several times as he drove to their home.

“Hey ms Amy are you ok, if so you need to get home I got a call that your house is on fire,” police records say he wrote.

By that time, police said, the family was already dead

My guess is it's an interior door--to a bedroom or a bathroom--and possibly someone locked themselves in for protection and the door was kicked in by Wint...

Police said they are searching for clothing or shoes with blood on them, credit cards and other paperwork from the home, weapons “that could be used to inflict blunt-force trauma,” duct tape used to bind hands and feet, digital recordings from surveillance cameras in the home and money wrappers.

If I were Police I would look at the fire places pokers..that can be a weapon sharp and blunt..I remember a family member had a break in years ago..and had a fake fireplace with a set of pokers..the robber took the log turner out..and went into the bedroom where my family was sleeping..they stole items from the dressers..Thankfully the victim didn't wake up..they also too the poker with them! This is so scary and heartbreaking for lousy money..4 lives are lost..and a family destroyed..Reading on FB some news sites like MSNBC are full of sick people saying they were Rich and the White privilege BS..People are just sick and evil They will be caught and imprisoned for the rest of their miserable lives!

Is it possible the police didn't notice this broken door and boot print until recently (i highly doubt this, surely this would be one of the first things they did was check all the doors and windows for signs of a break in)? or were they keeping this information to themselves til now for some reason? this is so obvious it seems crazy that the killer(s) didn't try to cover it up somehow since they did seem to try to cover their tracks otherwise, why not try to cover up the bootprint which could be traced to the shoes (and thereby, to the killer) worn during the crime?

.

It is odd that the police have released this picture. One would think the wearer would quickly discard the boots he was wearing when he sees this. These guys are surely watching the news and the internet chat. Most of the people mentioned have deleted their Facebook and social media postings and become invisible. Even Darron Wint's Facebook has finally been deleted. The court order for cell phone records will tell a lot including calls made and received, cell towers serving their locations and more. I think the boot pictures are a subtle hint to friends and acquaintances to consider the rewards of dropping a dime on the crew.

This may not be out yet, but can't the money be traced? Wouldn't the bank have the serial numbers of the bills dispensed that day?

ITA with PP who said that the police know damn well what they are releasing and what they are not yet releasing.

I hope this guy gets his ass kicked in jail, so we don't have to pay any more for his existence. May this family have the peace they deserve.

strange. this case just gets weirder and weirder and sadder and sadder.

That looks like an inside doo, not an exterior door. Look at the door knob.

Nope, we used to live in a similar house of the same era nearby and all of our basement doors had those same knobs with deadbolts about 6 inches above them. The actual knobs didn't lock, only the deadbolts did.

Yes, exactly. It looks like an old (maybe original?), probably rarely used back, side, or garage door. The lock would be a deadbolt above the knob (not pictured). Definitely not an interior door. The doorknob is old and worn - I'm sure in a house this expensive, the owners had nice hardware on their interior doors. For the posters who were talking about wallpaper...what?? I don't see any wallpaper. I think the news got it wrong, like they've got many things wrong already in this case, when they said French doors.

I'm thinking maybe this door was actually kicked in after the crime when Wint was leaving the scene since the murdered housekeeper's husband didn't apparently see any broken windows/doors or anything amiss when he went looking for her Thurs morning and also since the killer likely wouldn't want to have such a visible sign of something being wrong present for 20 hours or however long they were in the house. Maybe he kicked in the door on his way out to make it look like a forced entry.

Doors were kicked in..not out..boot print was on the outside..that is how they got in..I guess the doors would be in the back of the home? Question what happen to their Dog(s) Wish DC would bring back the chair..this has to be one of the worst if not the worst murder case in the history of the USA

no, not even in dc. how many people with child (though perhaps low income) held in homes and terrorized and killed by intruder in last decade in dc. More than one. perhaps the motive was different. perhaps the imagined payout smaller. This one seems especially egregious because the family was living a charmed, ideal life. But that doesn't make their deaths somehow worse than other s who have died like they died.

I do wish there was the death penalty (though I am against it) as a bargaining took to make the guy talk. But not because this crime is worse than the many others like it because the family is richer and more favored by fate and life circumstance. A life is a life. A night of terror is a night of terror.

Agree. Well said.

In terms of the bolded, can you please list some crimes in DC in the last decade that involved home invasion, torture, beating, stabbing and burning? I ask because I do believe this crime is one of the worst that has occurred in DC.

This could be way off from what happened. It occurred to me that maybe….. only a portion of the 40k was delivered to the car. Once it was discovered that some of the money was missing then SS was on the phone to the assistant (his last call) to find out what happened to the rest of it but it was too late.
Anonymous
21:44. Oh that would be so awful...and if that happened, then maybe that's why the police are scrutinizing the assistant...who then would be partially responsible for the murders...
either way, the assistant was a loose cannon, taking photos of the boss's car, photos of the $$$, etc...irresponsible and reckless.

Robert Wone
Robert Eric Wone was living in Washington, DC at the time of his murder. Wone was 32 and living in Oakton, Virginia where he commuted to Washington, D.C. to work as a lawyer. On the night of his murder, Wone had been staying with some friends who lived just a mile from his office in D.C. At the time of his attack in August, 2006, the townhouse where Wone was staying was, strangely enough, not empty at the time of his attack. Also inside the home at the time of the attack were Victor Zaborsky, Joseph Prince and Dylan Ward. According to police, on the night of his death, Wone was restrained, incapacitated and sexually assaulted before he was stabbed to death.
Police spoke with the three men who lived in the home and found their calm behavior to be quite suspect. Although the men did call an ambulance, they were not seen as being distraught or eager to help the paramedics once they arrived. The men became suspects in the murder, although many suspected their involvement due to their homosexuality and the fact that Wone had been sexually interfered with prior to his death. Ultimately police found the crime scene to have been tampered with which led to more delay in the investigation. The three roommates would eventually be tried for obstruction however; all three were found not guilty. Wone’s wife would later file a civil lawsuit for wrongful death against the three men which would be settled for an undisclosed amount on August 3, 2011.
The murder of Robert Wone was never solved; however, it has become quite a popular case in Washington, DC particularly due to the involvement of the gay community.
