Just reading GotSoccer rankings is not enough. For example FCV non/pre DA teams are generally playing a year up so FCV 06 United is all or almost all 07s. (You wouldn't know that from reading GotSoccer and you would go to the wrong game.)

Also need to know that going from 08 to 07 is when ECNL/DA starts so PWSI and VSA top players go to VDA etc.

Well, the rankings are based mostly on the previous year. Their playing up for one month has hardly impacted their rankings.

Good try but they were playing up last year too.

NOVA Coach here-

My post was directed towards the individuals who just moved here. GotSoccer would give a good feeling for the area. Also I said that it wasn’t enough as I told them to go to their games and what not. Also reality is if your player really is great, any team you go to that’s one of the top teams won’t matter. If you are really trying to leverage which is the top team so your player can “get seen” then your player probably stinks and it’s going to be a tough road for them if you have D1 aspirations.

If you are the parent of an 08 who lives in or near Loudoun County who is really great, you should check out FCV. My guess is their 08 DA team a year from now will be really great just like their 07, 06, 05 ... teams already are. Just saying.

FCV 07s are mediocre, just look at their DA scores. This is the same team that used to get pummeled by Loudoun 07 which itself is a mediocre ECNL team. FCV no longer dominates below U15. At 06 and 07 the ECNL teams are the strongest around here. Harsh reality. The FCV 07/08 parents love this board and talking their DDs up.

Neither FCV 07 DA or Loudoun 07 ECNL has lost a game yet. Not sure what scores you are looking at? Loudoun 07 did lose one player to FCV 07 this year and likely will lose more players in the future to FCV.

That path has been a two way street with FCV and Loudoun since Loudoun was awarded ECNL. Don't presume FCV kids won't freely go to Loudoun.

The best FCV 07 DA player came from Loudoun this year which shows FCV is a recruiting club.

If you say so Mom.

Sure because that player's Mom would trash her new club. Moron. The top scorer on that team is new to the club. But keep pumping FCV Dad.

If I were the 20th best player on an FCV team I might consider leaving to be starter on a Loudoun team.

What a stupid thread. Bottom line is if your kid is good then it doesn't matter which top team.

Wait until you hit no re-entry ages and you will soon see there is no real difference between the 12th best FCV player and the 20th when your kid only gets 20 minutes a game. I'm sure your kid is top 5 and likely the BEST kid on the team from Loudoun so your "safe".

And If kids from Loudoun do come over they are not coming over to be subs. You will soon learn that just one kid can come in and take your DD's position leaving her to either play another position or to become an instant sub. And when no re-entry hits being a sub is a bitch.

It will be their time soon.

If you want a good read go back and read previous years discussions.

People will always predict that this year/next year will be different. I don't think so.

True. Lots of bold predictions of Loudoun defectors to FCV as if nothing had changed. FCV got one kid from Red and one from Black. Years earlier 50% of Loudoun Red left for FCV and McLean. When clubs like Loudoun and VSA via VDA are retaining 70-80% of their rosters it gets harder for FCV to recruit. FCV's U10-U12 teams will begin to be filled with disgruntled Loudoun Black, White and Silver parents and FCV will have to make lemonade out of a few of them. Certainly Loudoun gets some of those kids wrong but not all of them.

FCV already can't compete with Loudoun's rec program.

This is why the eventual move to Springfield is critical for FCV's future. Their recruitment well is drying up in Loudoun and they need to expand and move.

FCV has never been able to compete with Loudoun's rec program. It's literally the only thing Loudoun is good at.

And until Loudoun got ECNL the size of their rec program didn't matter because they didn't keep their best players past U12/U13. That is now changing.

Springfield yes (The St James)

Not so sure about Arlington. Wondering if St Agnes means St Stephens St Agnes (Alexandria). Not aware of a soccer field at St Agnes (Arlington)?

On the boys side, Loudoun had DA for a few years and now shifted down to ECNL (you can argue ECNL vs DA on the girls side, but not the boys). Loudoun obviously wasn’t doing too well in DA which is why they didn’t get a full DA, and their results were overall subpar. You’d think they’d be able to move to boys ECNL and be a player but so far they are like 7-14-3 across age groups. Why? Because many of their “best players” at u9-u12 aren’t factors at u15. Why you expect things to be different on the girls side, I have no idea.

FPYCparent wrote:Saw McLean Green play first-hand today. They're probably the best team (as far as any published metrics go) that DD has ever faced.

DD's team is a possession team "in development." (Hey, they're 11.) McLean didn't overwhelm with size or speed; they didn't have to. They did it with execution, taking advantage of unforced errors and making the most from what DD's team gave them. 0-2 at the half … with a bobbled keeper save converted for a score and a untimely lapse by the two defenders. The final score isn't worth mentioning.

Watching the game in real-time, McLean appeared to have excellent, on-target one-touch passing and they used the flanks to either set up crosses into the middle or pass back to the top of the penalty box for a long, hard shot (nearly all went too high or wide). I'll have to watch the video replay to see if there was something else that McLean did extremely well. There may have been a total of four or five fouls committed by both teams, from inadvertent trips and a few offside calls. A little bit of physical play here and there, but nothing over the top. DD's coach isn't a screamer and the McLean sat for the entire game, with only a few instructions that I could hear.

I think it would be interesting to see this team go up against an equally-disciplined team, or a team with a little more size and speed.

Oh yeah, a fellow parent noted that at least one former SYA Red player (a neighbor) was now playing for McLean Green. There may have been more that made the same move, but he wasn't sure.

PWSI 2008 girls Classic seems pretty dominating (some huge skilled girls - fast too) - wonder if they are truly the "B" team for that club (classic is undefeated in NCSL Division 3, while PWSI 2008 red team is in last place in Division 1).
