Well Mikey Madison now too. Will be interesting to see what she does after Anora. I could see she and Zendaya competing for similar roles. |
I agree - Salma looked fine superficially but seemed like a shadow of her former self when she spoke … it was so intense to say absolutely nothing interesting … |
I've never been a big fan of Zoe, as a person or as an actress. She always comes across as self-centered in interviews. Not unusual for actresses, but there is no variety, or much dimension, in her roles. You also just see Zoe. I feel the same way about Margaret Qualley. Zoe is getting attention for EP because she sang and danced, not because her acting was so amazing. Also, she really was co-lead not supporting, which also helps her. |
Agree on Saoirse Ronan but for me the jury is still out on Florence Pugh. I thought she was so good in Little Women and Midsummer and then nothing she's done since has impressed me. Whereas Ronan has shown an ability to carry movies on her own over and over. |
I thought she was super annoying and rude too. She asnt up there has if she had won the award but it wasn't for her. She just sang. That whole cast of putting if I am being honest. Karla was mad the rest of the night after she lost |
I do like Madison. And I think she's the better actress. If you saw her in Better Things and then Anora, you can see how much range she has and why her role in Anora is so lauded -- she's not playing a version of herself, that's just a fully realized character. But I don't think she'll be up for many of the same roles as Zendaya. Like Madison is never getting that role in Dune and Zendaya couldn't pull of that role in Anora. They have very different physical and vocal qualities. Madison is more of a character actress. |
+1. She has the physique of a supermodel and striking facial features. I’m sure the fashion and beauty brands dream to dress her for a premiere to shill their overpriced products to the masses. |
And you’ll be here for it lol |
I think it's funny people are dismissing Zendaya as just being beautiful and not a great acting talent, as though looks aren't central to acting in movies.
Zendaya has unusually cinematic looks, and they match her on-screen personality well. She will get roles because directors will look at her and see how she fits perfectly into shots. This is also a huge part of Chalamet's appeal. Brad Pitt and George Clooney built entire careers on this ability. In movies, sometimes acting is the rare ability to cut a very specific figure in a very specific shot in a way that evokes exactly the mood and feeling the director wants to evoke. This is why ugly or generic looking people don't become movie stars. They don't all have to be classic beauties, but they need to be striking and interesting to look at. They need to be able work their angles on camera and know how to stand and sit in a way that will read on camera. Like physicality is half of acting, sorry. It is a rare talent who can transcend appearance on acting skill alone. Even someone like Olivia Coman is using her physicality and appearance to deliver performances. Like Zendaya, she knows how she looks on camera and how to angle her face and use expression to convey mood and emotion. |
How many dress changes did Nikki Glasser have? She looked fantastic .
More importantly she was an awesome host. Funny without being artlessly savage like Ricky G has been. Shout out to Melissa Mcarthy - her hosting was funny and on point also |
It’s awful and I don’t get the hype. It’s about Mexicans and the drug cartels in Mexico made by a French Director with no knowledge of the cultural issues and nuances. Fronted by 3 non Mexican actresses, with horribly inaccurate and cringy dialogue |
Um yes? She didn’t win so many agree. |
This is where the British and Australian actresses outdo the Americans, they have both. |
Yeah, being cast in starring roles in two of the most successful films of the year, plus a recurring role in three Spider Man movies is proof of that. |
Yeah a lot of Mexicans have been incredibly critical about it for this reason. They didn't care enough to dive deeper into the culture. It's gross the industry is backing it this muxh |
