I’m so sick of dogs everywhere

I was just thinking as I read this thread how people would $hit actual bricks of human children did the stuff that people are defending letting dogs do on this thread. We've reached a weird point in society where if children are not perfectly behaved and supervised at all times, their parents are indicted as delinquent, but dogs should be allowed to roam off leash in city parks, dine at restaurants and wander grocery stores, go to the bathroom in people's yards, and bark all day and night, and if you complain *you* are the selfish one.

Strange days.

Most dogs don't roam free and restaurants with outdoor patios often welcome dogs. Why keep your dog locked up neglected in the house all day. That's selfish.

Right but this thread is about the people who take their dogs places they are NOT allowed or let them off leash when they are supposed to be leashed.

You are right most dog owners don't do this but the minority who do are a problem (for everyone including other dog owners). And it is troubling that this minority group seems to be getting bigger.

No one is advocating for neglecting dogs or leaving then cooped up at home all day. But when you take your dog out if the house, you should do so responsibly, keep them on leashes except in designated off leash areas, and not take them into grocery stores or restaurants where they are explicitly not allowed.

Kids basically do all of these.

I don't know kids who do any of these. I have never seen a kid pee in a neighbors yard while walking down the street or run up to a stranger and sniff their butt or steal food from people in a park or sit in a yard unattended while screaming at everyone who walked by. And if I did see a child doing these things I would be very concerned that their parent was negligent and might even call the cops because these are not okay things to do.

But apparently expecting dogs not to do these things is just unreasonable. Doesn't make sense to me.

Well see, dogs are animals who pee and poop outside. Kids are people who pee and poop in toilets.

Do you not understand how these are different?

Ok then the equivalent would actually be people letting their children just waltz into other people's homes to use the toilet instead of having the kids use the toilet in their own house or a public toilet available for public use.

Do you not understand that just because dogs pee and poop outside does not mean they should be allowed to pee and poop anywhere they want even in private property?

Probably said already but we have a small front yard and no backyard so the front yard is where my toddler and young child plays. And it grosses me out to think that a dog may have come and pooped in the yard. Even if it’s being picked up, there is still fecal matter there and it’s just so gross to think about. I really wish there were designated spaces for dogs to poop and pee.

You sound very reasonable but also like you haven't read the whole thread and are not familiar with how dog threads on DCUM work. This thread is about anything and everything in terms of behavior because we COULD all agree on offleash dogs but this thread takes a detour where half the people posting spout off about how they intend to pull out their guns and shoot every dog and owner. Then the "no one advocating for dogs being neglected" crowd comes in and gives their fantasy about gas chambers for the owners and dogs who do something like...take up sidewalk space. It's an unhinged place here.

No, see, your grass adjacent to the public sidewalk isn’t the same as the bathroom inside your home.

You realize all sorts of animals poop in your yard don’t you? JFC.

NP here. When did it become normal for people to their dogs into the office? I work at a medium sized marketing agency, and in the past few years the number of dogs in the office has slowly increased from zero to seven.

I love dogs, and my family has two English Labs, but I would never think it was appropriate to bring them into work. People may be allergic to, afraid of, etc. Some of these office dogs wander around the floor, bark to get attention, etc.

My DH’s office is the same. The CEO rescued a dog and started bringing her in everyday under the premise that she had severe separation anxiety. It has since created a domino effect, and there are now 4-7 dogs there on any given day. We have a dog too, but he thinks these dogs at work people are a next degree of crazy.

+1 Seems to be a thing at younger startup type companies.

I work for Amazon and it's been a thing there since they were operating out of a garage. It's part of the culture. They're pretty strict on the rules of conduct and I haven't seen any poor behavior in th 5 years I've been there, though don't choose to bring my own in. It is supposed to be cleared by everyone who works near you and they're restricted from certain places so a "wander and bark" dog would be kicked immediately out, but guessing the startups are mimicking this concept without the structure.

Ugh I was in Michael’s yesterday and some woman had brought in her nasty little dog. Of course some other woman came over and started gushing about the dog. It is just so bizarre to me.
