Good luck to them in Cary, NC representing the Mid-Atlantic region. Hope they can take out Eagle Stix in the Championship. I have them winning that one 8-6.

Thank you Coppermine Dad for pointing out a Baltimore team won NGLL.

Coppermine was better than everyone today (and all season so far), beating Maryland United 11-5 and Pride 11-4, ending their regular season 8-0.

Next Level had an impressive 13-5 win over Nems.

Stars had an 11-10 win against a much improved Skywalkers team who was ranked 17th nationally heading into the weekend. Great job Stars!

Pride beat Hero's White handily, 15-4, before their loss to Coppermine in the second game of the day.

Big matchup for next weekend is Pride (5-2) vs Stars (4-3) for NOVA bragging rights. If Stars can ride their momentum to victory, Pride and Stars will both end at 5-3. If not, Pride will be crowned unofficial Nova NGLL champ. Good luck girls!

Coppermine would be a decent high school team--right now--in either VHSL 6A or ISL. Pretty impressive. Size, athleticism, team play, defense. Taking it to MD United like that says a lot.

Coppermine 28 is a great team. But if you think they would do anything except get crushed by the ISL teams at HS, the delusion is really deep. HS is a different style of game than middle school NGLL lax. The level of physicality and speed is a completely different level in HS. I'm sure all of these girls will get there in HS, but to suggest they're at that level now is absurd.

Clearly using some hyperbole to make a point, but glad you engaged so passionately to continue the discussion. I'm guessing you haven't seen the bottom half of the ISL, like Georgetown Day, Madeira, Episcopal, or St. Andrews play recently. Delusion or not, I would argue that there is no real athleticism difference, or even size deficit, in the midfield or defensive lines for Coppermine...and there is a huge lacrosse deficit for those ISL teams. Not talking about SSAS or Stone Ridge or Visi, of course. But fun debate.

That said, I bet McDonough or SPSG or one of the big Baltimore IAAM schools would love to lock down the Coppermine core for their starting line up for the 2028 class.

Beg to differ. Coppermine has 2 really effective midis, a very good goalie, and girls who are fast but not particularly skilled. Obviously they are the team to beat right now, but they lack depth and probably couldn't quite make up a "core." Anyway, their best player already goes to Maryvale and wouldn't be shocked if their second best ended up there as well.

Just to close this entertaining colloquy off--at least on my end--I will take that you think the 3rd ranked team in IAAM could use Coppermine's top 2 (or maybe 3) on their future rosters as at least one point of agreement.

That said, if you are looking for more lacrosse "skill" at the 7th grade level than what Coppermine is showing--a team that didn't drop the ball (like at all) in an 11-5 blitzing of one of the top 4 teams in the region in MD United during a driving rain yesterday--than I'm not sure you are being realistic.

Before someone else says it--back to DMV focus... What is the early line on Stars v Pride matchup this weekend?

You are obviously a Coppermine parent, as you watched their game in great detail, in the rain...at Moose Lodge, and have come here to sing their praises. Which is fine, congratulations to your daughter on a great season. But that being the case, excuse me if I take what you have to say with a hefty grain of salt. Anytime I've seen Coppermine play, which is a decent number of times, they've been just as mistake prone as any other top team, but they have the speed and aggression to recover. If they didn't drop the ball, their two top girls probably weren't passing it much -- which tracks.

Anyway, there's one thing we can agree on - let's get back to the DMV.

Thanks for the analysis bitter Hero’s Dad

Any time Coppermine Dad. See you in the playoffs.

Hero’s Dad, I looked for you at Garrison Forest today, must have missed ya!

BOTC editors aren't really working this weekend it appears, so might as well bring some of the B'more conversation here.

(I do love the Coppermine Dad vs Heroes Dad banter as well).

Bottom line is that DMV teams who play NGLL A should root for their Mid-Atlantic region champion to represent at Nationals. Just elevates the whole league.

Or alternatively root for whomever you want. Some random DCUM poster is not the boss of you!

Will there be any movement of players on the too Maryland teams over the summer or do they generally stay put?

As they head into high school, don’t be surprised when crush and Coppermine lose a few to skywalkers and M and D. They just don’t have the recruiting reputation yet

The strongest programs in the NGLL (27s-32s) based on representation in the playoff weekend:

Hero’s Green (5 teams)
Maryland United (5 teams)
Coppermine (3 teams)
M&D (3 teams)
BLC(2 teams)
Limelight (2 teams)

Skywalkers didn’t have 1 team represented. They will still draw some too talent for High School, but it’s not as automatic as it used to be. BLC and limelight’s players will all end up elsewhere since they are only middle school programs.

BLC had 3 teams (27,30,32).

Again, you are thinking small. This is Middle School lacrosse. When it come to high school lacrosse, Skywalkers and M and D are two of the best programs. Other than Yellow Jackets, these two are the best recruiting programs. That’s all that matters

Regardless of HS, I am curious if any of the top Maryland clubs are looking to bolster specific positions? They all seem to be very strong at middie and I suppose a good goalie is always valuable.

At the high school level in MD and VA, which is the group OP was talking about, it would be M&D #1, Capital #2, Skywalkers #3, and Yellow Jackets a very distant #4.

Not thinking small. As the game grows so does the number of programs who get athletes recruited. Playing in the A brackets against other top teams is the way to get seen by college coaches. Way too much stock is put into the recruiting coordinator position. It is more of a marketing tool to convince players they “need” to be at a certain club. The player and parents and prospect camps play as big of a role. M&D and Skywalkers will continue to get good players, but people do not need to leave the other top clubs just to go to those 2 places. Hero’s green is the #1 27 team and they are not all bolting for M&D or skywalkers for a recruiting reputation.

YJ around hers is not a top program at the high school level. NY? Yes.

Most of the top teams have 1 good goalie already, but not sure how many have 2.

For field players, Speed, athleticism, stick skills and possibly size depending on the team, are more relevant than needing a specific position.
