Meanhwil, other countries want to block expansion of a military buildup near its borders while the US cries about annexation and oppression. The USA lectures countries about ethnic cleansing while they did the same to Hawaiians and Native Americans.

Talk about 2 faced hypocrisy. How easily Americans forget how much annexation they've done.

Oh really! And what about the indigenous people in mother Russia? The Komi, the buryats, the nenets, the Chukchi (which is used as an insult), the chechens, have we forgotten the chechens? How lovely to point fingers at Christopher Columbus and the US and stay silent on the eradication, Russification, and annihilation of the indigenous people in own backyard.

Ukraine may renounce the attempt at NATO membership. If true, it should stave off any invasion and put things off for a decade. At the point, Putin should be done and perhaps a new path will be blazed.

Nic. That wilp cut off any argument that Putin is fronting. In reality it changes nothing because Ukraine wasnt going to be able to NATOngor a long time. For instance it would have to give up their claim on Crimea and Donbas just to be eligible. This has never been about Ukraine and NATO. All parties: NATO, Ukraine, and Russia alrwady know that there is no chance of Ukraine joining NATO in a generation. This entire thing has been solely manufactured by Russia. If it makes them feel better and lets them save face then c'est la vie suchbis the price of peace. But it changes absolutely nothing.

The national polls before this aggression threat showed increasing numbers of pro-nato. Last poll was 60%. Ukraine would totally give up claim to crimea & Donbas if given a chance.

He didn’t, and “funny” is a strange choice of words or people being killed or maimed. Hopefully, we can ship you over to the front lines.

Strange how every time Joe Biden is in charge of Ukraine policy, as in 2014, Russia takes it as a green light to take over the parts of Ukraine that it wants.

Because Putin knows that Republicans will try to hamstring any response by a Democratic President.

GOP is funded by Texan oil interests who have very deep financial ties with Russian oil sector. Just follow the money.

There was that time when Donald Trump Jr. served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company and collected millions. Oh wait, that wasn’t Donald Trump Jr. after all - it was a different son of a president.

even if the way you are casting this were to be true (it isn't) in this matter, Ukraine is the US ally and Russia are the bad guys. Wouldn't it be worse if someone from the Administration were siding with the bad guys?

Oh, wait...

They shouldn't have to. They are a sovereign nation, they should have the freedom to whatever alliances they like.

BUT... If they were to agree to declare they have no intention to join NATO any time soon, they should put significant conditions on Russia in exchange for doing so.

Ukraine should demand that Russia declare the eastern rebellion come to an end, announce it returns under Ukraine control, they completely withdraw, stop supporting and funding it. And also put Russia on notice that the second that Russia tries to oppress or threaten Ukraine's sovereignty again, the deal is off the table and Ukraine's NATO membership gets immediately submitted.
