Would you buy a Range Rover?

Anonymous
In the market for a family SUV. DH and I both love the Range Rover minus all the maintenance problems. We can afford it. Since it is unreliable, we would probably also buy another more reliable SUV for when RR would be in the shop.

Would you buy the Range Rover knowing you will probably buy another family car due to RR's unreliability?

The unreliability doesn't start until about 4 years out if buying new. I would not buy a used one that's more than 5 years old.

Would you lease it?

I like to lease my cars because I hate maintenance and like to swap every 2-3 yrs. DH likes to buy.

I would never buy one just because they're low-quality. Their reliability is terrible, so what's the point?

Are you really this stupid? Or is this some weird form of bragging? If you've ever owned any sort of high end car, then you know that the dealership will give you a loaner when you have your car serviced.

This is just stupid.

Maybe try buying something with a better safety and service record, like the Audi Q7. Yes, it's $20k less. But you were really planning on buying the 5.0L V8 Supercharged Autobiography, were you? If so, you know what they say about fools and money.

There was another post a while back where I actually suggested that if someone bought a Range Rover, they should also buy another car to use while the Range Rover is in the shop.

I can't believe that there is someone who seriously has this plan.

Are you and DH insecure? Why do you need an overpriced over engineered gas guzzling vehicle?

Or do you believe the ads on TV and think you bill zipping around the region with no traffic while wearing evening wear?

The Range Rover would be our 4th car. DH likes sports cars and keeps getting rid of our practical cars for impractical cars.

I personally want to get the Lexus SUV as our practical family car. DH wants the RR for our local weekend family car but probably get another more reliable family car for road trips.

I realize how silly this question sounds but it is our current dilemma.

What's even more shocking is that somehow Land Rover has managed to do such a successful job of marketing this vehicle that people are actually willing to buy it knowing full well what a piece of shit it is. Even to the point they are willing to buy a backup car for when it breaks down! I'm with 10:13..this has to be some weird sort of brag post. If not then the OP would buy pretty much any polished turd just to one up the neighbors. If that's the case why not get a couple of nice shiny Harley Davidsons to go along with your Range Rover? Those are pieces of shit too, but also inspire the same sort of mouth drooling lemming "shut up and take my money" behavior.

DH is pretty frugal with most things but loves cars and watches. He is obsessed with saving but then is willing to drop 120 on an unreliable nice SUV.

The idea of buying an expensive unreliable vehicle plus a spare car for when the former is in the shop is beyond ridiculous - hope that was a joke!

Why do you think there are so many Range Rovers on the road in Georgetown, Chevy Chase and Mclean?

Is it better just to get the RR and not get another one?

Most of people we know who have a RR have 3+ cars.

We are in different worlds. I don't know anyone with a Range Rover OR 3+ cars!
