Would you buy a Range Rover?

Anonymous
I have to admit that I have a car crush on the RR and we're considering buying one just because I like it and we can afford it. DH will always have a nice MB "reliable" sedan or similar car. But the mere idea, suggestion, whiff that the car dealer wouldn't provide a very nice loner car (along with pull-in service bays, lovely waiting areas with wifi and beverages), other than as a joke, is itself ridiculous. Much more ridiculous than wanting a RR.

OP here. That part was supposed to be a joke. Obviously does not translate well on an anonymous forum.

We currently do not have an SUV. We want a family car - our equivalent of getting a minivan. DH wants a stylish SUV if he is going to drive a "minivan". He currently drives a sports car that does not fit our family and I drive a luxury sedan. DH also has other impractical cars.

Would you buy the Range Rover knowing you will probably buy another family car due to RR's unreliability?

Are you and DH insecure? Why do you need an overpriced over engineered gas guzzling vehicle?

Or do you believe the ads on TV and think you bill zipping around the region with no traffic while wearing evening wear?

The Range Rover would be our 4th car. DH likes sports cars and keeps getting rid of our practical cars for impractical cars.

I personally want to get the Lexus SUV as our practical family car. DH wants the RR for our local weekend family car but probably get another more reliable family car for road trips.

I realize how silly this question sounds but it is our current dilemma.

It's not really a dilemma. If your DH is that into polluting the environment and wasting money, and you don't have the wherewithal to stop him, we can't really help you either. You are correct on the point that it is a silly question.

Range Rovers ooze insecurity to me. They're for strivers. I wouldn't buy one because I've already arrived.

No. They are crappy and everyone I know who has one is a total DB.

Your original post mentioned unreliability 4 times. And, hence, your "need" for an extra car. If all that was a joke, there's nothing left to your question. Get the RR and while it's in the shop you get a RR loaner. It's not hard. Wait, what's the question?

+ 1 on the insecurity part

OP, my DH sounds similar to yours in that he only splurged on cars and electronics. We have an autobiography rr and a few other cars. It is our only SUV. No problem to date, but it is under warranty. Agree that longer term, it seems people might have maintenance issues. We are happy with ours. It comes down to your personal taste.

I drive a Land Rover, it is now 7 years old and has 135,000 miles and maybe I just won the lottery on it, but it hasn't been unreliable at all.

On the occasion that it has been in for service as long as you take it to the dealership, you do get a loaner car.

I kinda look down upon Range Rover drivers, because they were so easily swayed by a pseudo "image". No one uses their brain in making a Range Rover purchase.

This. I look at them as sadly desperate to show everyone that they can waste money.

Plus, their latest redesign just makes them look like a Ford Explorer. (And I like Fords, but at least RR used to look different from the everything else.)

Just make sure to get an Escalade as your second car.
