Just announced 2hrs early.

Ha- they couldn’t do what everyone else is and call 3hours. It isn’t in the policy to have an 3 hour early dismissal. and they were stuttering trying to figure out if they could subtract 3 from the dismissal time instead of 2.

All schools already have a 2 hour early dismissal schedule established, so APS schools do 2 hour early releases when needed. FCPS does 3 hour early releases, so that’s what they called.

You do realize that students do things after they get to school, right? Trying to revise and reprogram a bell schedule (for changing classes) for 3 hour early release for MS and HS at the last minute? Redoing elementary school schedules for lunch, recess and specials? Revising staff coverage times for duties and special education? Revising bus times? Go ahead - you get on top of that and we’ll see what you have figured out by tomorrow morning.

I cannot imagine the swirl of ego and ignorance that allows someone to spout such nonsense. It does seem to be a combination unique to Arlington.

It’s been on the website a while. Why not look instead of badgering some random person online?

I realize a lot and some of which you are wrong about. APS has procedures in place for regular 2.5 hour early dismissal or almost that for elementary. FCPS has 2 hour and sometimes 3 hour for professional development. For example most APS elementary who dismiss at 3:50 usually go home at 1:30 for early dismissal. That is what happened last Thursday for parent conferences. Now they are going to redo that schedule to dismiss at 1:50.

DP but I will answer that. You see you are just thinking about taking personal responsibility for your kid and missing the fact that a school system has to take responsibility for 1,000s of kids, not just one. SO they have this thing called greater good they have to think about and risk monitoring. For example, who will sue, how will all the kids and bus drivers and staff people get home, it is a much higher level of responsibility than just PERSONAL responsibility. I’m glad they are doing it and not you!

+1, I can't believe how stupid it is to have to shift the schedule when we already have an Early Release plan.

Getting out at 12:30 is cutting it close. With every child on a laptop or iPad why not go virtual on emergency weather days.

My kid will get out a lot later than 12:30. Yes they are cutting it too close and IDK why they don't do virtual. Prob people would yell and scream about that too.

Because not every kid has an iPad or laptop. All first graders and Kindergarteners don’t have one.

That cuz the crazy ant tech crowd lobbied against 1:1

They are still at it too. They don’t want any kids to get their own computers at any age

They are loud too

The latest dismissals are out by 2, with busses done by 2:45. They’ll all be home before the front gets here.
