Everyone is becoming a Grandparent

Anonymous
My 2 kids are still young but I don't think I will care about being a grandparent. I would be happy if it happens and they want it to happen, but I dont feel the need for them to have kids just to make me a grandparent. I want them to be happy whatever that means for them.

Yes I realize I may change my tune in 15 years. But I hope not.

Im thinking about my friends and their parents and who isnt a grandparent. One friend has 2 siblings but none of them are going to have children. She is very close with her mom still. Of all my other close friends who don't have kids of their own, they do have a sibling with kids. So I guess it is pretty rare for that generation to not be a grandparent.

This was my cousin. My decided not to pursue IVF due to money, but they had done IUI. My aunt didn't find out until years later and she was devastated. She said she would have given them 100k for IVF had she known money was the issue.

She is. Every parent wants their kid to have a kid

No they don't. They want their kids to be happy. Having kids isn't for everyone and parents need to realize that their kids' idea of happy may look very different from their's.

I know they shouldn’t but they still secretly do.

Wasting your parental instincts and energy on other people’s kids.

I had mine when I realized how much time wnd money I was spending on my nephew

This has to be the the dumbest post I have ever seen. Science, healthcare, technology, opportunity are at their highest points in the entire history of humanity. We are literally living at the apex of all civilization. But all means, let your genes exit the pool! It's called survival of the fittest.

That’s why you should support the end of vaccines. Vaccines have kept stupid people alive and allowed them to reproduce.

There’s so much more now, everyone is able to have kids and the kids survive and carry on their genes.

I would be especially upset if it’s the spouse who can’t.

Every parent may not want their kid to have a kid, but every parent wants to be a grandparent one day.

That’s not necessarily true.

I’m in my 60s and none of my kids seem to want kids, at least right now. They are still working on establishing themselves.

For right now, I’m surprisingly sanguine about it. I felt totally tapped out raising 4 kids for 25 years fairly on my own (effort and time wise) and just the idea of starting the whole cycle again leaves me feeling tired even thinking about it

Are you willing to take care of the grandkid full time? If not, please stop asking your kids to have kids in this treacherous economy.

No anyone bringing a child into the US at this point in time is a complete and utter idiot.

No vaccines??

No education??

Piggy with Nuclear codes?

Alcohol Pete?

Christian nationalists wanting clergy in schools "inspecting your kids genitals" to play sports?

Oh and the best for last women as breeders, no voting rights, no rights at all.

Hell no.

NP. Uh, no. Idiocracy is rapidly becoming a reality.

Things ebb and flow. This time is no different. The tide will always turn.

Climate change will put an end to humanity sooner rather than later.

Family is a lot more important than being a fighter pilot, moron.

Then OP can adopt some kids, or volunteer with some. It's not responsible for one person to have a baby so someone else can see it for a few hours each weekend at best, and brag about it to their friends. Again, you don't get to control what other people do with their reproductive systems.

And it's not like all of us can have kids (infertility) or afford to adopt kids.

Try participating in a substitute grandparents program OP.

A good friend of mine has ten grandchildren and I definitely envy her as we have none. Their lives aren’t centered around their grandchildren which I think is healthy.

Yes we just had the world’s most boring sleepy Christmas dinner with our two unmarried daughters in their late twenties. Just the four of USA Ho Hum. I thought by now there would be spouses and children and games and fun. Nope. Every year it feels sadder.
