I use soap on an as needed basis. If I wore no makeup or sunscreen that day (often in the winter and especially when I'm just working from home) water with a little exfoliation from the washcloth is sufficient. If I wear makeup or other products that are going to sit on the skin if I don't wash them I use a bit of soap (Herbivore Botanicals pink clay soap) along with the washcloth to remove any build up.
I think ever using soap is weird because sometimes you need a bit of soap just to get off environmental residue (say after a day at the beach or going hiking or a very long hot day in the city). But I also think washing with soap twice a day is probably awful for a lot of people's skin. I have sensitive skin and definitely take a "less is more" approach -- I really try only to wash it when it is dirty and then use the least abrasive possible method in order to still get it clean. |
I do, tbh, compared to a lot of people my age I know. Of course, extra fat also helps. |
Having oily skin as a teenager/YA is hell because your face always looks greasy + dirty. Kind of like a face full of sweat all the time. However in middle-age and beyond it is the biggest blessing ever. I am in my mid-50’s and my skin is moist and unlined. I love not having to deal w/wrinkles and after a little bit of foundation, my skin actually looks glowy. |
