Do you wash your face with soap (of any type) twice a day? Once a day?

My face is pretty much as oily as it's always been and I'm almost 60. If I don't wash it, it's too disgusting to live with. I used Basis or a clear glycerine soap, depending on what I have on hand or which sink I find myself at. I use a light powder as my only makeup.

Your skin is over-producing oil because it has become used to being stripped multiple times a day. Not sure what the solution is, but maybe cut down slowly.

I use my kids’ Johnson’s Head to Toe Wash in the shower in the morning and pain warm water and washcloth before bed.

I take my make up off with a wipe then use a Dermalogica cleanser at night. I follow with a Dermalogica scrub.

In the am, I use a tiny bit of cleanser.

I have really beautiful smooth and clear skin.

I use a really gentle cleanser at night (Cerave). But my 3 year old has only had her face washed with cleanser about a dozen times, to wash off sunscreen after a beach day. She has perfect skin so I guess our routine is working! I should make her wear sunblock more often but she hates it, so she wears a hat outdoors in the summer.

You're stripping protective oils off your face, which will make your face dry and need lotions and creams. The cosmetic industry brainwashes women to believe they need skincare routines with tons of products, but really, if you don't hurt your skin in the first place, you don't need most products.

Obviously, there are exceptions and skincare has to adjust depending on your skin type, age and seasonally-variable climate.

The oils are not protective, they are buildup. Per the logic of your post we should never shower.

Best to use a soap everyday, with a washcloth to scrub off dead skin, and then moisturize ans protect from elements with a non comedegenic moisturizer.

I have dry skin and rosacea. If I did that, my face would be inflamed, covered with broken blood vessels, and flaking. No mechanical exfoliating or soap for me.

I cleanse with honey. If I’m wearing a heavy mineral sunscreen I use a Korean oil first and follow with honey. Moisturize with Fresh products and exfoliate with something from the Ordinary (the one that is red). In the winter I often don’t need to cleanse in the morning and just use water.

Different people have different needs. Few people will have a good result from scrubbing their face with soap and a washcloth- that’s going to wreck the moisture barrier. But I’m sure it works for someone.

This is pp who suggested washcloth, any dryness/flakiness/redness may be due to dermatitis, a fungal growth on skin (same as we can get on scalp)--a few days of ketoconazole clears it right up. The condition usually shows up in the middle bottom of the forehead above and between the eyebrows and the face right next to both sides of the nose and the crease.

The condition also shows us as lighter colored skin patches but I am AA so can see this easily but not sure how this manifest on our white sisters.

Same here. But I have dry skin. If I had acne prone skin, I would use a cleanser with salicylic acid.

I use a CeraVe cleanser on my face at night and just water in the shower in the morning. No soap at all - it would totally dry out my skin.

Twice a day with cleanser. Every single day.

You "water only" ladies, do you wash your hair everyday? Maybe that is why you do not feel the need to use a face wash, shampoo and face soap have similar ingredients and the shampoo gets on your face anyway when you rinse it out...

I wash my face with cleansing oil. My DS uses a tea tree cleanser.

50, have only worn make-up once in my life (wedding). I shower every day and wash my face with just water in the shower. I wash my hair every other day. That's it. My skin is in great shape.

Just water. My skin looks great

Just water. I had bad acne as a teen and in my early 20s, and I know hormones have a lot to do with it, but once I went super minimal with what I put on my face it just all seemed better. No more fighting with peeling dry skin from the acne meds, oil from the moisturizer, etc.

Of course now I'm getting older and worrying my skin will look more aged if I don't get back into a routine with a bunch of products, but I'm hesitant.
