NVSL Seeding Surprises?

Div 1 wasn’t the only Div with some drama over hosting divisionals. In another division, another team insisted on hosting (and hosts every year).

Really? If there is a pool with 8 lanes, I would want them hosting divisional meets.

Even if they are the usually furthest pool from other pools

I thought people didn’t want to host divisionals. I know our team has for a few years but definitely doesn’t willingly volunteer! We just have the best space for it typically.

If they are only hosting 2 meets wouldn't they want to host divisionals to make up the difference/add a home meet?

It’s a leverage play. And they’ll likely get what they want.

They know everyone else wants to swim in the fastest pool at Divisionals, which makes it an easy leverage play for them.

Need the fastest pool to get your all stars in. You don’t want lower divisions taking the spots.

And then they all time at All Stars bc no blocks.

Wait there are blocks at Tuckahoe?

Our pool volunteers and we usually get it every few years. It's a huge money maker for the team when we get to host.

I think the edge/deck of the pool is just higher than a typical pool.

No, they’re not permitted in the NVSL. Tuckahoe has a high edge and internal gutters so it’s “fast” for kids whose times matter down to the tenth of a second.

????

8 lane pools are faster than 6 lane pools.

Anonymous wrote:Explain how Overlee (or any of those pools) remain on top when they have 10 year waitlists.

They should have no kids under the age of 12 to seed a meet - yet, somehow by magic they do.

Even accounting for large families with kids of all ages, it does not add up. Those teams should die because of their membership situation. It does with other pools, but not them.

Overlee's wait list only got so insane after they did significant capital improvements in 2011-12. Keep in mind most members do not give a rat's ass about the swim team and just want a nice pool to go to. And it's a nice pool.

And Overlee has also consistently started losing to Chesterbrook and Tuckahoe as the wait list issue has continued to get worse.

So they kind of are slowly sliding.

Overlee is #2 in Div 1.

After 2 years of being #3 and they barely squeaked past Chesterbrook last year.

Which division is the question.
