That's disgusting. I'm sure several cats are in their future.

LOL !

If it weren't a statement, the press would cover it. For example, Rachel McAdams has disappeared from the limelight. So in order to reappear in a way that got attention, she added... armpit hair.

Here is Vanity Fair, totally not noticing the armpit hair: https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2023/04/rachel-mcadams-armpit-hair-photos

Here is E!, quoting McAdams explaining the statement behind her armpit hair: https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/why-rachel-mcadams-wanted-to-show-her-armpit-hair-and-body-in-all-its-glory/ar-AA1a4B1u

Here is Vogue, explaining the armpit hair trend and the statement of confidence it makes: https://www.vogue.com/article/celebrities-who-dont-shave-underarm-hair-julia-roberts-madonna-sophia-loren-lola-kirke

So yeah, it's totally just me. Armpit hair in glamorous places is just soooo common, I'm a weirdo for noticing it. Right.

Wow. You spend a lot of time thinking about Rachel McAdams. Guess her marketing strategy is working.

So in order to avoid making a statement, women must engage in continuous (or costly) hair removal. Please think about this for a while and get back to me.

Not wearing deoderant is also letting your body exist in its natural state.

lol that vogue digs up circa 2000 Ani DiFranco as exemplary of a celebrity who doesn't shave her pits, I suppose that's helpful context-setting for their particular audience.

I know zip about Rachael McAdams because I don't look at glossy magazines, gossip news sites, or celebrity news in any format. Have you tried reading real newspapers, books, or nonfiction works? Spend more time reading the New York Times and you may be able to do the crossword in that publication instead of the one in Us Weekly. Challenge yourself!

You must be so interesting to talk to at parties. Celebrities and armpit hair. Wow, what a great conversationalist!

I could care less if someone shaves their pits or not. So weird that you do care.

Discuss.

OP, you made me laugh. I'm totally with you. I busted out laughing for some reason with the "Discuss" ending...I guess because no one ever seems to want to discuss and point out the obvious. Like that it's gross.

When I was early 20s, I had a part time job working in a bridal shop. I used to love to draw wedding gowns/fashion sketches and I thought this would be such a fun job. What I never anticipated was the neurotic bridezillas... or the bride who came to me wanting to try on about a dozen beautiful white gowns (we had to go into the dressing rooms with them to help them with these gowns). Imagine my surprise when she had armpit hair long enough to braid. I didn't like the idea of that getting all over these gowns.

Does the armpit hair not make any perspiration/bo smell more or hold in the smell?

If I said your DD's visible bra straps were "revolting," I would get crucified on this board. But that doesn't apply when we're talking about her unshaven armpits?

Enlighten me: What aspects of a girl or woman's appearance are we allowed to judge? Where is the "her body her choice" line drawn this week?

Too much eyeliner, Capri pants, perfume use.

Ridiculously long fingernails and/or eyelashes. Tattoos.

Eyebrows resembling the Golden Arches.

I agree with OP that armpit hair is gross. I haven't noticed it as a statement though.

I went to a swim class with a young woman who had thick hair down the insides of her thighs.

When it's long like that, it's a statement.

Thick hair down the inside of thighs... that's really gross.

Yes. These girls stink.

Also, au naturales: if you don’t practice basic Western hygiene, your armpits aren’t the only noticeable odor by the end of the day. All those Tom’s products combined with “let it flow” mentality leads to ripeness by evening come summer time.

If a woman doesn't want to shave then fine. And people who judge are going to find something else to judge anyway. It's the bully mentality.
