Once more: If Meren really wants to continue to support South Lakes, she needs to lobby to get rid of IB. That is what her constituents want. Most of them.
Tell me you've never heard of Reston.

I have lots of good friends in Reston. I have a good friend whose son is math oriented and would have loved to have AP. Also, while Fox Mill is in Oak Hill, they are Meren's constituents. So is the part of Floris that attends South Lakes (ever wonder why part of Floris went to South Lakes instead of Westfield where they were going before? It's because they were in Hunter Mill district. That was the division.
During the process, the parents who spoke during citizen participation BEGGED for them to change to AP. I'm guessing that most who transfer out of South Lakes use that as the reason for transfer. Of course, there are a lot of kids assigned to Westfield who go to TJ. Not as many as Chantilly, but quite a few.

On another note, there was no Coates during the process. And, there may have been a shift in the magisterial districts since 2008. Hunter Mill may have more of Floris now, but I'm not positive.

Janie Strauss kept her constituents out of South Lakes, as well.

I have noticed Crossfield moms are very vocal whether they want to stay at Oakton or move to Skyview.

Can I make suggeston?

Crossfield, Fox Mill wood - Hughes - South Lakes
Crossfield, west of Reston parkway - Carson - Skyview
Crossfield, east of Reston parkway - Franklin - Oakton

I think this proposal would probably satisfy the most Crossfield families.

Thank you! But No, thank you!

What you propose for your school?

I heard that they are looking into Brookfield or poplar tree for Westfield instead of lees corner.

Also part of GBW might branch off to Westfield after Rocky Run.

Heard from who? The voices in your head? Both of these schools have walkers to Chantilly. If Lees Corner can use that argument to stay at Chantilly, these neighborhoods can too.

Umm yeah that’s gonna release a hornets nest. They can walk to Chantilly!

Replace these incompetent consultants already!

Put competent people in place. take care of the little things like split feeders, do IB right or get rid of it, renovate as needed. Long term the overcrowding goes away on its own. Sure there will be new development but not much in the way of K-12 population growth. Birth rates are down and will remain so for a time.

You are only hurting yourselves and playing into Reid’s strategy to do anything else.

Agree regarding birth rates. This issue will resolve by natural attrition. Anyone with a brain could do the math and figure that out.

Crossfield-Carson-Skyview is the only thing that makes sense.

Let’s unite to get that message out!

You can blame Reid, Xyz, school board and even RIO all you want but the fact is Chantilly is overcrowed and Westfield needs to backfill.

So which communit(ies) should get moved from Chantilly to Westfield?

I haven't seen any real answer other than complaints.

AP would encourage more families to stay in SL and not pupil place in other schools. This is not limited to FM students.
But….
“Your” South Lakes community???

South Lakes is in Reston.
Fox Mill is in 20171, Herndon/Oak Hill. Close, but different.
Fox Mill attends Carson middle school, while most SL kids attend Hughes.

So the Fox Mill kids arrive at South Lakes, hardly knowing anyone while most SL attended Hughes and have established friend groups.

We would rather our kids attend HS with their friends from Carson.

Well, you had neighbors there in 2008 who lobbied for South Lakes. I know the name. Last name began with B. was one.

It is a Fairfax County School. Reston is not the owner. Your rep is Melanie Meren, Hunter Mill district, which includes Fox Mill and some of Floris which is in Oak Hill. She may also have some constituents at Madison? Not sure about that.

Well now it is 2026, and I did not live here in 2008 and my kids weren’t even born yet. I would imagine those people have long since retired or moved on. Also Reston was a very different place in 2008.

If the board did not buy Skyview, you would rather go to Westfield or Herndon HS?

Which community you think you belong to if you do not think you belong South Lakes?
