Meghan Markle and Prince Harry News and Updates Part 4

A lot of these celebrities own stakes in huge companies with real opportunities in the workforce for returning mothers. Can you imagine if Meghan's effort expanded to collaborate with Jessica Alba who owns Honest or Rihanna who owns Fenty Beauty or Reese Witherspoon who owns Hello Sunshine? All billion-dollar companies and all of these women have power over hundreds of direct employee positions and connections with thousands more.

People are missing the point that not all of the people taking part in this initiative are celebrities in the traditional sense of the word. Stacy Abrams, for example.

From People Mag:

“Celebrities also took up the cause, with Hillary Clinton, Sarah Paulson, Ciara, Gabrielle Union, Diana Award CEO Tessy Ojo, Katie Couric, Deepak Chopra and Sofia Carson among those who posted about their support on social media.

According to the Duchess's office, other participants who have committed to the cause include Adele, Amanda Gorman, Amanda Nguyen, Ibram X. Kendi, Gloria Steinem, José Andrés, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Stella McCartney.”

Very, very cool!

And Katie Couric and Hillary Clinton.

And Katie Couric and Hillary Clinton.

And? So?

What will 40 mins with Katie Couric, Hillary or Stacy do for a regular working mom?

Hint: nothing.

Crazy rich women with nannies and cooks have nothing to offer real women.

This is nothing more than yet another platform for privileged women to do faux charity while getting lots of free media attention. Yuck.

You know the saying, "Stop feeding the troll"? Let's stop feeding the celebrity gravy train.

C'mon, Ladies! Real working moms don't need a pep talk from a celebrity surrounded by a PR team film for social media and People magazine! They need childcare and greater work/life balance.

I don't understand the angry insistence of people who try to sh*t on every and anything Meghan does. This seems like a solid initiative to me, and for the people who get mentored, I'm sure it will mean a lot to them, as well. I say this as someone who really wished I had more mentors in my life, people who can be soundboards or who might simply be able to impart wisdom or advice for me.

If this same initiative had come from Kate, I really, really doubt we would see the same pushback here.

40 mins isn’t mentorship.. it’s a photo op for their Instagram or People magazine.

^^^
That is what we are criticizing.

You might ask yourself why you care that others see through this? Why does it bother you that we don’t worship M or celebs in general?

Real mentors rock! But this isn’t real mentorship.

I don't know about you, but I'd be thrilled to have 40 mins of 1:1 time with any of the "celebrities" on that list, if even just to pick their brain. And the idea is that others, across fields and backgrounds, would similarly step up to offer their time.

If you have a bone to pick with celebrity culture in general, do you then hate all celebrities, or is it just Meghan?

As someone who is trying to re-enter the workforce after an extended absence and feeling daunted, this would make a huge difference to me. I don't need extensive mentoring. I need a shot in the arm-- a boost of energy and motivation and confidence.

Eugenie's time is not worth a tuppence h'penny. She has no skills and no education. Neither does Beatrice.

Only a few years ago they were told off for taking 24 vacations a year.

That's what they do.
