As an older woman who has lived through plenty of misogyny I’ve learned how important it is to be inclusive. |
This hateful crap is exactly what fuels my anger. I don’t see any of the JKR-minded people denouncing this. |
I posted a few pages back specifically saying I did not support language like this. And I’ll reaffirm that I think this poster does sound hateful and bigoted |
At some point in history we'll read in horror about how many woman and men willingly mutilated their bodies, slicing open their breasts to stuff in bags of saline, or what the long term consequences of this may be. How about in the meantime we expand what it means to be male, so it is not so limited and let women just be! Women have rights and so do trans, but they are not the same historically and we cannot erase that! Question: why do most trans-men want to look like hyper-feminider women, usually like a woman from the 1950s and not like any women I know who don't have artificially large breasts, long fake hair, and wear make-up all the time. I'm not talking about all trans women, and this is a serious question, but why? Why was it celebrated and not questioned when Jenner for women of year and had the chance to speak said "“The hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear. She led a life of white priveldige, did little for the trans community or women in general, and is still a Trump supporter and participated in the biggest shame of all the Kardashians! How about trans-women get really pissed off and speak out about this sham! |
JFC. Being inclusive isn’t silencing anyone. |
I’m the above pro jkr poster and I find this poster to be fairly offensive as well. Not all trans people present like that. And how any woman wants to present themselves is their business. There are plenty of hyper feminine women too that dress and look like that |
The ones I know don't. You're talking about cross-dressers, who are not the same people. |
Thank you. |
+2 That is hateful and bigoted. And OBVIOUSLY one of the many reasons trans women want to pass fully as biologically female is to reduce their risks of violence. I guess I’m one of the “JK” minded people and I maintain that trans people should be treated as the gender they wish to be. |
Can the question be answered? What is the harm caused to trans women by calling them trans women? |
The Jenner quote actually proves a lot of what people in this thread have been saying. A trans woman saying that "the hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear" demonstrates that trans women are NOT the same as women. Jenner has never needed to worry about getting raped, or getting overpowered by a man in a dark parking lot. Jenner has not needed to deal with men making inappropriate comments at work, excluding her from golf outings where deals are made, or wondering what a colleague or boss' actual intentions are when he invites you to look over some documents in his hotel room after work. etc etc. The concerns are simply not the same. |

Trans women are called trans for a reason. They were not born women. The very words used to describe this group acknowledges that. You can argue until the cows come home, no demand for inclusion will change that fact.
That said, there are a lot of posts about JK and this issue of menstruation. At the end of the day, she's correct - it is certainly a fact that only women can menstruate. This is undisputed. And don't tell me me about PCOS and menopause because those are just biological women who can't menstruate. Is saying only women menstruate exclusionary? Yes. So what? |
So you don’t want to include trans men on menstruation issues because there aren’t many of them? |
So should cis-women, who just want to be called women! |
Well, I happen to agree with poster. But I’m jumping in here just to say this - I’m glad, despite the rude comments made by some, that this is even a topic of discussion. There was a time, not really so long ago, that all of this would have been taboo. So at least there’s that. Change and acceptance is often very hard won. I hope for the sake of my trans daughter that the dialogue moving forward, will remain civil and respectful, from ALL parties. |
