a club that is directly recruiting entire teams from neighboring clubs. it's not just GFR.....

what other clubs?

herndon, loudoun and mclean coaches have all been approached to move teams to rbc

how do you know this

because i'm one of them lol

Are you moving your team or did you tell them to kick rocks?

not moving my team. to be fair, they're offering a great incentive to coaches and families but ultimately these clubs don't do well and the shenanigans are a little too much for me.

What's the sales pitch? Do you have any more tea to spill? Fields? Leagues?

Plan appears to be to play NSCL under Loudoun affiliation. They seem to be trying to get teams to move without their direct involvement -- i.e. having players/families independently submit requests for cards to be transferred. It all seems very shady and like a poorly disguised attempt to avoid any non-competition obligations, etc.

Breaking news - New club is trying to recruit players and coaches. I'm one of those coaches as well. Explain to me how anyone can stop anyone from going to tryouts for RBFC, HYS, Loudoun or McLean. Happens every year, proving that Sarah and Mark followed Coach X, Y and Z will be impossible.

Ask any coach how many kids they ask to come out to tryouts and then they bring their friends. 80% of the reason these coaches are hired is because they can bring kids, not to compete or develop but to pay their club instead of another. It happened with Loudoun East on the girls side, this is nothing new.

Yeah, that’s fine between seasons, which is natural and expected but these coaches and their TMs were trying to recruit people to leave for the spring season after they’ve already committed to a team

Not just committed but under contracts with current clubs that run through the spring season.

Plus obvious potential non-competition and non-solicitation issues with RB’s mid-year recruitment attempt, assuming the coaches’ contracts have those provisions.

Agree with PP that those legal (and ethical) concerns largely disappear at end of spring when players/coaches naturally switch teams.

But that’s the thing. Most of us do not hate GFR. Our team manager is aligned with the ownership of Riverbend, is on the Board of Directors and is actively trying to hurt GFR. Most of us don’t want any part of it.

Ethically the TM should step down as TM. The conflict of interest is obvious. Very poor form for TM to do this (and also increases the legal risk for RB — as a best practice, RB should also have required TM to step down before taking on a Board role).

And if not GFR should lock her out of PlayMetrics.

Yep, I am not happy she had access to my contact information somehow. My kid is not on her team and she cold called me trying to pressure me into getting my team to make this move as well and it was extremely uncomfortable. Thankfully we spoke to people at GFR and they helped set things straight.

What was the pitch on the urgency to do it now instead of waiting to have tryouts in the spring and launch the teams in the fall?

I've been a TM before and could see the info for my own team only. How did she get access to other rosters?

Because for some asinine reason this club decided to try to start up in the middle of a travel season. Which should just show you what inept fools the guys (and gals) running this club are. To try to get into NCSL they need rosters of at least a certain percentage of an existing team to register. So, they were trying to get the majority or even all of the players from a team to leave GFR and move to Riverbend as an intact team. It honestly sounds like a couple people with a huge vendetta against GFR because they didn't get their way and now they are trying to use their influence over a few TM's and their money to start up this new club. A few parents with younger kids who don't know better were going along with it but luckily a few knew better and spoke up before anything happened. I don't care what people do after the Spring but this was downright dirty and unethical and I hope Riverbend fails because of it. (and yes, we did consider going at one point but thankfully a few GFR parents and staff helped us and are able to confirm our team is not being torn apart and our coach is not being fired like that RBFC board member/GFR TM tried to tell us!)

So much phoniness being posted on this thread. Sorry your club sucks, GFR, people have options and are on the move.

How does "GFR" suck, oh wise one?

If the only alternative to GFR is Riverbend, I think I'll sign my kids up for baseball next year.....

Really, truly would like to know what everyone's beef is with GFR?

The TM also has children on other GFR teams. I know nothing about Playmetrics (and we have only one child at GFR) but that may give her greater access.

She reached out to other TM's for their player lists- that's what our TM told me but ours didn't give her it and told GFR about it instead.
