”Getting taken advantage” - Thank you for your service to the commoners, Batman! |
Okay dude. I actually know some of the parents involved in this and it’s pretty traumatic for them and their families right now being asked to leave a club and risk what may or may not happen - they’re being asked to sign on to this new club by tomorrow night without any real guarantees of what this club will be. The obvious choice might seem to stay at GFR but then they risk losing out on playing with their friends in the spring. For these young girls that’s a big deal. The fact that a current GFR TM is on the board of this new club and is cold calling parents pushing this is absolutely crazy. I’m glad it’s not me but I do feel for them. |
Thanks, Coach. |
You can relax. The parents are aligned and most of us aren’t going anywhere. It was a whirlwind of a day but clearer heads prevailed. |
Smart. Should never buy something bc of pressure sales tactics, whether a timeshare or a neophyte soccer club. People with a good product are happy to let you have time to think about it. |
| They are talking about little 8 and 9 year old girls, those teams were just put together a year ago or less. There shouldn't be so much angst or attachment to their "team". |
|
So we are supposed to believe that all these coaches are staying because they haven't said anything?
Do you really think that anyone that's leaving in June would come out and say it now? Tell the parents? Be serious... wait and see in June/July |
Breaking news - New club is trying to recruit players and coaches. I'm one of those coaches as well. Explain to me how anyone can stop anyone from going to tryouts for RBFC, HYS, Loudoun or McLean. Happens every year, proving that Sarah and Mark followed Coach X, Y and Z will be impossible. Ask any coach how many kids they ask to come out to tryouts and then they bring their friends. 80% of the reason these coaches are hired is because they can bring kids, not to compete or develop but to pay their club instead of another. It happened with Loudoun East on the girls side, this is nothing new. |
This group was trying to leave for the spring season |
I think it was the unethical pressure from the TM to jump clubs in the spring that was the problem. People can evaluate the coaching slates and make their own decisions about tryouts and what’s best for their DC with better information in the spring. Some coach turnover is nothing new, although I hope AG stays. |
Yeah, that’s fine between seasons, which is natural and expected but these coaches and their TMs were trying to recruit people to leave for the spring season after they’ve already committed to a team |
It’s one thing to tryout at the normal time and make a decision about what’s best for your DC the next year. That’s when turnover normally happens. It’s another thing to try to entice coaches and pressure kids to jump ship midyear. It’s different ethically and probably legally. Hopefully by spring tryout R(b)FC will be able to let people know whether they actually have league affiliations and practice fields or not. Aside from all the other risks of going to a newly formed untested club with no track record, it would be foolish to commit to them without this info even setting aside ML’s track record of poor judgment and bad decisions and personal vendettas at GFR. |
| This all would have been less messy if they waited until fall instead of trying to stir things up mid season. |
| How can any family move their kid in the middle of the season? What are you teaching your child? You signed up to play for the year and what is the benefit of moving now and not wait for the summer and start fresh if you're hating it that bad where you are now |
But that’s the thing. Most of us do not hate GFR. Our team manager is aligned with the ownership of Riverbend, is on the Board of Directors and is actively trying to hurt GFR. Most of us don’t want any part of it. |
