Boundary study (2025 )

Options 3 and 4 - so much change. People would protest.

Okay, I really need to know if they're keeping the DCC to know how I feel about these options. Does anyone know when we find that out?

Of course. But MCPS has a responsibility to utilize its taxpayer-funded facilities efficiently. They can't keep asking to build/expand schools when enrollment is going down.

Agreed. I expect that will be a decision for the superintendent/the BoE. I don’t think the firm doing the analysis is taking it into consideration or making a recommendation.

OMG option 3

time to get some popcorn

  that one is seriously crazy. It's the worst outcome for Woodward in terms of FARMS/EML.

Worst because you don't like poor people and Latinos? Wow.

 worse because FARMs/EML drains resources, and MCPS and everyone knows that, which is why MCPS tries really hard to even out FARMS/EML across schools, and which is why we have several boundary options.

-signed a former poor person from an immigrant family whose siblings were in ESL (that's what it used to be called).

They actually bring resources because the state allocates funding based on FARMS and EML rates. However, MCPS does not allocate finding to schools based on the FARMS rates so rich schools benefit from funding allocated for poor kids in other schools.

The funding isn't enough to deal with 50% FARM/EML rate, which again, is one of the reasons why MCPS tries to spread out the load. If it was purely about funding, those high FARMS schools would be doing much better academically than they are.

I'm confused. Option 3 spreads the FARMS/EML kids out the most, which would make it the best option, not the worst as the PP described above.

It's optimizing the FARMS rate and best in that regard. I think we need to see travel time as well.

Option 3 is the best when it comes to distributing FARMS rate.

What is the best from a walking to school standpoint?

Pretty mujch all options keep walk zone in near by school so not much difference unless I missed something.

I believe they said Option 4. Option 3, although I understand why they presented it, seems insane in geographic proximity/busing terms.

Option 3 is sheer madness.

Option 3 has Blair completely geographically disconnected from its two island zones. Other HSs also have disconnected islands all over the place for that option.

So describing option 3 as the "worst" as described above is weird and kind of offensive

Split articulation from ES in every options seems high

Except for the fact that it both maximizes facility utilization and reduces rather than increasing segregation. None of the other options achieves this.
