Here is a picture of my kitchen. Tell me what kind of backsplash to get!

We cook a lot, and the backsplash of the kitchen is beginning to look absolutely awful. We need a tile backsplash.

Here is a picture of my kitchen:

Since buying this house, we have changed the wall color from that awful wallpaper, removed the pot hanger, and gotten stainless steel appliances, so the room is much more open and bright.

Here is the wall color:

Choose a backsplash for me!

I am currently thinking of something like this:

I am not sure how it will look with my very dark countertop, or if maybe I should put something more elaborate, with accent pieces, or maybe some color. I don't really want to go overboard on cost either, our house is only about 400k. I know I don't like the type of mosaics with 15 different types of tiles on them, those look way too busy for my taste.

Paint the kitchen a brighter shade of biege/grey and then do a brighter, more neutral, same style.

I am not a fan of rustic finishes. If they have the tiles you like in polished finish it might look nicer.

You could pick a glazed ceramic in a similar color as your wall color - if you like it.

Agree with both of the two PPs- lighter paint and ceramic or glass tile (not trendy small ones)

When we were picking our tile, the kitchen designer warned against unpolished tile as it's much harder to clean. If you cook a lot you really want a backsplash that you can just wipe clean.

You could do offset or herringbone patterns:

Oh thank goodness I was gonna say the wall is horrible. I might do a reddish brown glass tile. I personally like blues and greens but I'm not sure that would go with your kitchen.

OP here. I'm not changing the paint! The paint color is my favorite part of the whole dang kitchen! It brings out the color of the cabinets nicely, and it functions as sort of an "accent" color because the two adjoining rooms (family room and sunroom) are open to it and a shade of beige, so it adds a little pop of color. The rooms are also all southern-facing, so it is a very bright space no matter the color- I could paint everything dark grey and it would still look bright. Here is my inspiration kitchen, which I am amazed I can still find 3 years after I painted:

I'm surprised a lot of people are suggesting a glossy ceramic. The reason I picked the travertine is not because I love rustic tiles (if I had designed the kitchen from the beginning it would look far different) but because everything in the kitchen is so glossy- the countertop, the appliances, the cabinets- I thought it would add some texture and contrast. To my surprise, they were also the most appealing to me when I went to Home Depot and looked at the tiles. Do you think the tiny tiles are going to look dated later on? I just really liked them on display.

Get a matte finish.

I think the tiny stone tiles will look dated soon. We did them in our old kitchen 10 years ago.
