| There is an article in the Guardian describing how they have been working in secret for many months on trademarking Sussex Royal and attaching it to a number of products. The secrecy was presumably because they knew the Crown would never approve, which it didn’t. So now H and M are left high and dry, and stumbling around for a new narrative about their exit. |
The narrative has been consistent. Harry wanted freedom. End of story. |

Many of you are remarks naive in giving any credence to the commentary and news reports. Have a gander at this and think about where your so-called news is coming from.

No matter their behavior I feel bad. Harry has a history of depression and I would hate to see him lose it. Hopefully in a year they will allow a graceful entrance back and can maybe figure out a way that they can still live in Canada part of the year and Megan and do side projects. Maybe the mid way would he stay as a working royal esp in the military
Sector and she does not. What is wrong with her wanting to be married to him but pursue her own dreams. The answer should not be boxing them out so that they flounder. No one should want that. |
Her dreams involve SussexRoyalTM. The problem is they don't want what they (very recently) had but they want something they can't have. They need to figure out a third way. Or else they'll just be miserable and make other people miserable too, which seems most likely. |

You guys I just can’t ever respect them again!
I’m so heartbroken. Maybe... just maybe if they renounce their titles, donate every penny they currently have to charity, promise never to take money from Charles, and never make dirty dirty money off of speaking engagements or acting. They shouldn’t be allowed to sit on any boards. They should retreat to a quiet, pious life... possibly on a small ( SUSTAINABLE) farm. Far far away from the glitter of celebrity life. Maybe then I could possibly forgive them.... As long as they pose for family pictures and I have all the information about Archie and his development. I want to know if he’s reading at grade level and that his physicals are good. Because no one cares about these people! Right?!?!?! |
Honey, your google translate is broken. |

Everyone should be allowed to have dreams. I think Megan is immature and encouraged him to do something he cannot do. Maybe she was talking a lot about him having no real role after William’s kids get older. She is an American and I really think she had no idea what it is like to be day to day royal. I could not do it either. Rather than celebrating their mistakes there should be a way to figure it all out. You are correct that he should not be making money off the crown but she can have her own career. I remember at one point Prince Edward’s wife worked. Maybe they were worried that at some point they would be totally cut out. Who knows what we don’t know but the current arrangement is not good for Harry. He needs to be able to work in a role that suits him and not just be her plus one. I think granny knows this and this is why she is making the one year provision. He already seems less
Royal and it has been like a day. |
wow, thanks for this! enlightening. I feel like Harry and Meghan were in an impossible double bind. As I understand it, the main potential of the "work of being royal" is that you can make change by bringing social issues to the forefront. The model of this being Diana, who really did make a change by touching patients with AIDS and leprosy, and her work on landmines. But with the British press so insanely vindictive and obsessive about ANYTHING Meghan did in public (human rights abusing avocados! she crossed her legs wrong for 5 seconds!), this make her work as a royal basically impossible to fulfill. The press turned it into a zoo, designed to distract from whatever she actually did. I think the most bitter stakeholders here ought to be Britons of color, who lost the chance to see a multiracial face of England. |
It would certainly be a lot truer to Harry's claims of wanting to distance himself from the press, seeking privacy for his family and his long history of unhappiness with the paparazzi, which are the key reasons being given for stepping down as royal, at least before the blatant commercial side of it came out. But that's not what he's really doing, isn't he? I'm not sure what the future brings for him, but if all these stories about trademarking and looking for acting jobs for Meghan are true, the paparazzi will firmly be part of his future. So what does he really want? Frankly, I'm not sure he knows. For a man who hates the camera it's surprising he married a celebrity who courted fame and the limelight. |
Nah. They, at least she, just wanted to make money and was frustrated that royal role (and playing second fiddle for life) precluded her from chasing after money. |
DP. British press/tabloids are different than here in the US. I'm aware of that but mostly get my news about the royals here and from an occasional picture on a tabloid at the checkout line, next to the pictures of aliens, celebrities getting married or divorced or gaining weight or losing weight. That stuff is fluff. So my opinion of the royals has not been created by the British press, it's mostly from pics and from official statements. I come across an occasional rumor but I put as much weight to it as I do other rumors, it could be accurate or it could be totally false. Harry and Meghan have behaved horribly in their public handling of this. It would be much easier to forgive if they were both 20 but they're both in their late 30s. Acting like dumb teenagers. |
Prince Edward’s wife was caught trading Royal access/favor for money. The Royals have to maintain a semblance of propriety or risk the monarchy. Anyways it seemed like Meghan had a number of opportunities to do things she liked and that were connected to her old world. She guest edited Vogue, wrote a cookbook, launched a fashion line etc. At some point people have to take responsibility for their actions. No doubt the media is spinning this with their agenda in mind, but their exit was unprofessional at best, that wasn’t a media spin. |
Britons of color have been very supportive of their exit. There are many polls and opinion pieces showing this. They get how Meghan felt and they grew up there. |
Black Brits and Black Americans have supported her desire to leave and their desire to be rich influencers trading on their name. Meghan winning. |
