Have you ever been in a military unit? Doesn't sound like it.

I was only in JROTC, but I come from a long serving military family - every generation since the revolution - and I get what you mean.

I saw photos that were taken of the audience inside the room; stone faced or poker faced, whichever you prefer. The word on the street is that the general consensus was absolute disgust with what they heard and that they were summoned to hear it.

I’m the OP and I have to imagine the disgust these brave men (and hopefully women) felt listening to these speeches, threats made (if you don’t like what we are saying leave and see what happens) being told that hazing and instilling fear in our troops is the future of our military. Being scolded for not cheering for frump. This is shameful.

I'm sure there are some that feel as you do. Most likely approve of most, but not all of the changes. And, there are some who are all for it.

I think of someone I know on an ROTC hike/march. They had a time limit and his group was falling behind. He had to carry a female cadet's backpack because she was slowing them down. Some of what Hegseth said has value.

lol ROTC? Really? So what? There are tons of people(men and women) who join and quit ROTC. ROTC cadets actually are evaluated for 4 weeks in the summer between your junior and senior year.

Never heard of a forced march in ROTC. Maybe it was for an EIB? The final graded event is a 12-mile foot march which must be completed in three hours or less. That is not really hard to do.

I think you are trying to say women should not be in the military because they can not keep up with any male? Were you in the military? I have seen a lot of men who can not keep up with women. Specially many of the support units. It’s not like all female who are in combat roles have to pass a standardized physical test that has no gender bias. Oh wait they do!

Next you will be posting about changing ROE because killing civilians always works out well in the end. It separates the good guys(and countries) from the bad ones.

Sure, it was anecdotal. It was also true. You do know that most ROTC students get tuition and a stipend? And, yes, well aware of LDAC or whatever the current name is at Ft Lewis.
And, if you listened to the speech, Hegseth also said that there were also men who would not meet the standard.

Yes, we had a big discussion about ROE in my house today. No one is calling for NO ROE, just reasonable ones. A year or so ago, DH and his military buddies were discussing their ROE in Vietnam compared to what their kids were required in Afghanistan. There were issues then, too, with the requirements. But, lately, it has been worse.

And, there is a place in DOD for those in support roles that do not require the PT test. It is called civilian jobs.

So your family is happy that civilians and hospitals aren’t off limits anymore? Nice.

Show me where they said that.

NP — So, how do you understand Trump’s comment about using US cities as training grounds for the military?
Cities. That means civilians, right?
He’s jealous of Putin and Netanyahu.

I think you are deliberately misinterpreting what he means. Our armed forces do need real world training before they are thrown into battle. What would you prefer they do instead?

Real world training on US citizens? Explain yourself.

NP, explain “real world” training in the context of war? What aspect of their “training” do you see playing out on the streets of our country? Add to this the Posse Comitatus Act (look it up) and the suggestion that we use us military personnel domestically is illegal. This is just another example of glaring level of ignorance by the current administration.

The military is having a hard enough time recruiting. This Hegseth nonsense will only make that so much worse.

We'll see. They claim it has improved.

Recruitment improved under the previous administration because a fat farm was added to help recruits become eligible. Hegseth despises fat people, so will he continue to maintain the fat farm to help recruiting.

And frankly I don't see how rounding up homeless people who have mental illnesses and addiction problems will prepare them at all for a war against the Chinese over Taiwan. If they want real world experience, maybe they should help Ukraine out. That's the real world of war.

Were you there? I’ve seen a few anecdotal anonymous reports from a few attendees being unhappy but hardly anything universal. They’re not supposed to clap and cheer if that’s what you’re basing it on.

For better or worse Hegseth seems to enjoy pretty broad support among the enlisted (saying this based on both professional experience and personal connections). Many feel the top brass and political leaders are out of touch.

Of course they think this! They are 20 and don't have the intellect to be generals. Hegseth and his idea that bravado+pushups = warrior is a lot more appealing to them than the recognition that they will never be top officer material.

My female strength training, coach, who just turned 50, is stronger than Pete Hegseth and can do more of these. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

Exactly. I thought there was a move to cut out government inefficiency...

So you're suggesting that overseas military actions will primarily involve strolling sidewalks and picking up garbage?

Hegseth can’t meet the requirements himself.

So he skips pull ups and leg day.

I've seen that video before. Could it be that one pull up in that four second video is the last of a bunch of pull ups?

Pete did 50 pull ups and 100 push ups in about 5 1/2 minutes as part of the Pete and Bobby challenge.

Say what you want about the guy, he is in good shape.

- and still then progressive / leftist press insists on lying about Secretary Hegseth.

John Harwood, CNBC Chief Washington Correspondent, for example, is exceedingly dishonest. He is also a racist and a misogynist.

He recently falsely “reported” on the Hegseth address, where Secretary Hegseth called out military brass who set poor examples for the troops they lead.

Specifically, Secretary Hegseth stated military leaders should not be “obese,” (and there are fitness standards in .mil), nor should they be “lazy.”

In a ridiculous spin on the words “obese” and “lazy , journalist John Harwood made the absurd stretch of interpreting Secretary Hegseth’s words as specific attacks on Black officers and female officers.

Mr. Harwood, if you are reading this: care to explain why you believe (and implied) that women and Black people are lazy and obese?
You made that claim, John. It was not Secretary Hegseth who did it.

Why anyone would consider John Harwood to be a legitimate journalist is beyond me.
