We're stuck with him for the next 4 years so it doesn't really matter. For at least the next two years they'll consider to shove all kinds of crap through that will continue the downward spiral we're experiencing now. Maybe in 2026 there will be more checks and balances reinserted but it'll probably be too late. |
For the midterms, it definitely matters. And even before that - Congress is not powerless, and if Trump's approval gets low enough, they will notice. |
You can go to my posts in the very long project2025 thread from last year...I definitely expected this. |
if the GOP doesn't care about the lawlessness now and are staying silent, low polling isn't going to change that in a few months or year, and by then, the stormtroopers will be entrenched. |
I'm the "we're stuck with him" poster. This was my point too. |
Republicans, both voters and congressspeople, are not happy right now. Really, they aren't. Republican congresspeople are trying to wait it out but it's not going to work - and they will turn. The next few months are crucial. |
It seems like they have muzzled Elon Musk a little. Also if the various special elections turn in democrats favor or are close, I expect things will shake up a bit. |
But they won't turn. If they have held their noses this long to go with it, or worse, tacitly support it, then they won't be moved. They also won't want to risk getting primaried by Musk money. |
Honestly though, the data does not support your statement. Look at yougov data cut by political affiliation. Republicans are very happy and more so than the week of inauguration. I hate Trump, but I also firmly believe in data over vibes (which is also a reason I cannot stand Trump, but anyhow...) |
DP to add - overall decreases in approval are coming from Democrats becoming increasingly dissatisfied and a very small percent from moderate political affiliation. Decreases in approval are not coming from anyone right leaning. |

Speaking of polling... Polling shows that TRUMP NEEDS TO FOLLOW COURT ORDERS.
![]() almost 80% of REPUBLICANS agree. The man is completely out of control. The people have spoken. Time to reel it in and get his act together. And this also reveals the right wing bubble. The MAGA cult who still thinks Trump can do no wrong and that he can defy the courts is a tiny minority. |
But if you read right wing publications including comments, Republicans DO think that he is following court orders. Read comments on Fox News, it's the judges who are doing "illegal" things so they justify Trump. National Review has a more reasoned approach and does hold Trump accountable for faulty legal rationale in their view, depending on the issue. But lost MAGAs are not on National Review, they are in Fox News or podcast programmers that spin narratives that sound good to them. |
