So many teams declining bids, but only in the 17 USA division.

NEQ - 17 USA results: https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMzcwNDM90/divisions/171968/standings

We were in the National Harbor for NEQ this past weekend. This was the best location for a tournament so far: instead of being stuck inside between games, you could go outside and enjoy the weather. In most other locations you have absolutely nothing to do. I assume that staying at Gaylord it is pretty expensive for those travelling though.

I don’t think the bids next to the team names reflect bids they earned at NEQ. I think those are the bids that those teams came into the tournament with. And while it wouldn’t be unusual for a Blue Ridge team to decline a bid, I doubt all of those other teams declined a USA bid. The USAV spreadsheets of qualified teams is probably the best place to figure out which teams have what bids.

Interesting to hear that perspective - I’ve always liked tournaments in convention centers in downtown areas for the same reason. At NEQ in Philly, being close to Reading Terminal market, a short walk from City Hall or Love Park has always made it one of my favorites. But I’m a city person - if you find cities to be dirty or unpleasant, then something more resort-ish like the Gaylord makes sense.

Any bids earned before this NEQ weekend are listed by the team names, hence the "17 Freedom," "17 USA," and "17 Liberty" bids listed. However, the "Declined Bid" and "Earned Bid" labels reflect only this past weekend's play. If you look at the bracket, those teams were in the Gold bracket. Even just the standings page listed where each team finished (all were top 8 ... and there were 16 in Gold). This is just the first time I've seen multiple teams decline bids they earned.

I’m not seeing “Declined Bid” or “Earned Bid” when I look, even after multiple refreshes. Perhaps a different view for a mobile device vs looking on a browser on a computer?

Interesting. I commented to DH that it was my least favorite venue in the last two years. The water was pretty, yes, but the sound seemed so loud inside. Personally, I don’t mind those weekends in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do when DD is off with the team. I find a quiet place alone and have a little quiet time. That was difficult this weekend and it was a lot of driving back and forth. We didn’t stay at the Gaylord since we are local. Local but still a drive away. It was a long 3 day weekend and Easter weekend.

I am a city person as well, but I've been to tournaments inside cities that I didn't find anything interesting to do. For example, Capitol Hill Classic: there is not much around the convention center to make it worth going out.

I learned my lesson and I always have ear plugs with me, especially in venues with more than 3 courts.

The USAV spreadsheets won't be updated for several days, usually on Thursdays.

The Paramount 15s did make it to the four-team Gold bracket in the Far Western Qualifier (https://tm2sign.com/app/event/1821/division/8626/pool-bracket/173639) this weekend. I think USAV qualifiers are allowed one bid for every twelve competing teams in the Open division ... up to a max of 3 bids (36 teams). Two of the teams in that Gold bracket already hold Open bids. However, Paramount finished in 4th place, and there may be only one Open bid available as just 16 teams competed in that division. Perhaps someone who attended can correct me if my understanding is off.

...

USAV National 18s results (https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMzc5MTQ90/home) are:

Metro 18s finished in a four-way tie for 13th in Open (out of 48)
Paramount 18s finished in a two-way tie for 27th in National (out of 48); Liberty Elite 18s finished in a four-way tie for 37th
MVSA 18s finished in a four-way tie for 21st in American (out of 64)
VAJRS 18s finished in a four-way tie for 21st in American (out of 48); MDJRS 18s finished in a four-way tie for 37th

Paramount VBC 15 Maureen got the Open Bid at the Far Western Qualifier. Two bids were available at the tournament. They are the only U15 CHRVA team with an Open Bid this season
