Volleyball Action

I start this thread with the specific goal of having a list of volleyball opportunities (clinics / rec leagues / clubs) throughout the region. I will post opportunities that I become aware of (I am following various clubs on Facebook and check the city and county rec programs every once in a while) and I hope to hear about opportunities that others learn about through other means. I would appreciate (and I am sure other readers would also appreciate) a few words about the opportunities being posted. For example:
* age of the players targeted by the program (MS / HS / more specific age group)
* level of the players in the program (what does beginner / intermediate / advanced mean in that specific program?)
* prior personal experience with the program (any of your children participated? did they enjoy the program? did they benefit from the program? how did their skill level compare with that of the other kids? how were the coaches?)

Thank you in advance to everyone who contributes!

Here is an opportunity that I recently learned about:

Metro Middle School Training Academy:
https://www.metrovbc.com/academyclinics

The program runs for 7 weeks (September 11 - October 23), 4 hour per week (2h Wednesdays + 2h on Sundays) for $650. They target experienced / advanced players in two age groups (6&7 grade and 8 grade). My DD went to a few middle school clinics last year and most of the other players were much better. Coaching was focused on higher level players, so my DD didn't benefit much. This training academy seems to be at least at that level.

City of Rockville will start the registration for the fall sports programs on August 8. You can search "volleyball" on this website:
https://secure.rec1.com/MD/city-of-rockville-md/catalog

There is one clinic (8x2h sessions for $119) for middle school kids, so it might fill up pretty quickly. They also offer co-ed and women leagues for 18+ players.

Paramount VBC's remaining summer and entire fall clinic schedule is posted here: https://www.paramountvbc.com/page/show/8506299-camps-and-clinics

It looks like most of the clinics are generally listed as targeting players in grades 6-12, with a few listed for grades 3-8/3-6/7-8 and some high school-specific events targeting players in grades 9-12. Fall one-hour clinics are listed at $45; $54 for 90 minutes, and $68 for two hours. There are some multi-day (two hours each day) summer camps in the $200 range. All listed events are at the Volleyball Factory (former Kohl's?) out in Manassas just off I-66.

My high schooler attended some "pre-club tryout" clinics last fall while already a varsity player at her HS. She did play (but did not start) on a Paramount team this past club season.

MVSA appears to still have a few spots available in the junior division (grades 4-6):
https://www.mvsavbc.org/rec-registration

The MVSA fall league was the main reason why my DD made it into club volleyball (although not on an MVSA team). She was in the senior division last year and we will do it again this year. Highly recommended - it was a very positive experience.

Bethesda Volleyball Club offers some summer clinics in early August that still have spots available:

I will not sign up my DD unless I hear something positive: I only recently learned about their existence and I have no experience with them. The price seems a little steep as well.

This is perfect! I just asked this question on another thread! Thank you!

I don’t know anything about this club but one of the coaches, Neil, was the 17-2s coach at MVSA last season. In my limited interaction with him, he was fine. He held free fitness and some skills clinic for interested club players.

City of Gaithersburg offers one of the best non-club rec leagues (I wish other cities would follow suit). They have leagues for grades 4-5 and 6-8 (both girls and boys) and 9-12 (boys only). The leagues are very reasonably priced ($65) even for non-residents ($80) and offer one hour practice during the week and one game during the weekend. This is great for kids who want to figure out whether they like the sport before they move to the next level (club). My daughter started in the Gaithersburg league (and loved it) before she started club. More details and registration:

Do you recommend your daughter’s club volleyball team? My DD is also signed up for MVSA fall seniors and would love to get on one of their club teams but I know it will be tough.

My daughter was in the MVSA rec league, but she didn't make any of their teams (she eventually accepted an offer from another club that she tried out for). MVSA is not easy to get into, especially if all you have is rec experience. They invite everyone in the rec league to their tryout, but very few make it on their teams. It's a waste of money for the majority of rec players. Most of the teams are already formed with players from the previous year - they use the tryouts to replace a few players who don't perform that well and a few who leave for other clubs.

I got an email from Metro announcing their North, East, and Central rec leagues for boys and girls 8-14 ($219). The central leagues will play at Ritchie Park ES on Saturdays (Sept 14-Oct 20, 2:30-4:30 pm).

We've been to some Metro clinics and they were pretty intense. Ended up on the second court, which means we were out of our league. Never been to their leagues and the age range seems too wide. It is unclear how everything gets handled from 2:30 to 4:30 on one day of the week.

Here is something that I discovered too late: the ABA Team Summer Camps:
https://jsuanico05.wixsite.com/summercamp

They had volleyball camps at the Michael & Sons Rockville Sportsplex in the weeks of 6/24, 7/15, and 8/12. The camps are reasonably priced and their "itinerary" looks pretty good. I am a bit concerned about the wide range of age levels (4-15 yo), but hopefully they separate the players based on age and skill level (if they have enough campers). Has anyone done the camps? Is it worth keeping an eye on them for the next year?

The camps are fine but do not sign up for the Bounce Volleyball team. It is not club level volleyball.

USA Volleyball started a program called "Try Volleyball" where they partner with local clubs to offer free volleyball clinics to kids in grades 1-8. Here is a link where you can find a map showing the few local clubs that participate in the program (more might be added in the future):
https://usavolleyball.org/try-volleyball/

I recognized a few club names (MOCO, Libero, Platform) and there is another that I haven't heard of (Volleyball MD).
