Protests on college campuses

Call the ADL, we have another antisemitism victim here. He seems terrified.

“You are not permitted to complete the Spring 2024 semester, including participate in classes or exams in-person or remotely or otherwise submit assignments or engage in any activities affiliated with Columbia University," the notice reads. "You may lose the semester. If you are scheduled to graduate, you are no longer eligible."

What a relief this must be for these students. They don't have to associate or be associated with these horrible universities anymore.

It seems like a win-win-win for the student protesters. They got their message out, won't have their resumes sullied, and got valuable practice camping out in makeshift housing.

Won’t have their resumes sullied? How will they get a job with no college degree. Good luck transferring anywhere decent. Good luck applying to grad school. Idiots.

Eh. They could transfer to another school or be re-admitted to Columbia. This will pass pretty soon and they can claim temporary zeitgeist as an excuse.

Maybe. I don’t think others schools will want to touch them. And either way they lose the cost of an entire semester.

The protesters made demands. The university made demands. Each can respond how they wish.

Exactly. And other schools and employers can do what they wish with that information. Being a political pawn is not a protected class.

Political pawn? Who’s the political pawn? You’re defending to the death bloodthirsty murderers just because they purport to (but not really) believe the same fairytale as you. Who’s the pawn?

DP. Not sure who you're describing in your colorful language - but yes, these dumb students are mostly pawns.

I think they can probably transfer to another college, at least to a community college, if they decide to go back to being students instead of revolutionaries or whatever they are trying to be right now.

The professors who are blocking the police from entering the area? If I were Columbia, I wouldn't be keen on keeping them on. But I don't know what the school will do with them.

Tell the truth, for the very first time in your life. If those protesters and those professors were supporters of Israel, your thoughts would do an immediate 180, right?

Just cop to it. Don’t pretend that your views are anything more than ideological pitter patter without a shred of consideration for the details, the context, or especially the facts.

DP.

Ample hypocrisy flowing in both directions here.

How 'bout you pretend that the protesters were anti-DEI protesters, and that some had been affiliated with white nationalist organizations? And that "outside agitators" were using overtly racist language?

Would you be supporting their right to protest on campus?

Or would you be calling for them to be arrested/evicted?

I could have sworn that the entire universe came into being on 10/7 based on the rhetoric here since the pro-Israel camp seems to think 10/7 set off this conflict. BUT APPARENTLY even Israel’s only friend is acknowledging its human rights violations and war crimes prior to 10/7. Not nearly comprehensive enough of an indictment, of course, but sufficient to choke the losers here who continue to prosecute their case for racism, genocide, and pure evil by falsely claiming that Israel was the embodiment of a peaceful baby prior to 10/7.

Looking forward to the spin class incoming.

No spin here.

I don't see anyone here giving Israel a pass. Just about everyone acknowledges that Israel has committed its share of wrongs.

Not at issue for anyone here to discuss seriously.

Quoting Max Blumenthal to make your point is like quoting Alex Jones to make a point. They are birds of a feather. You strengthen the argument of the other side every time you do that.

He is more credible than Israeli propaganda. He provides real footage instead of made for TV fictionalized infomercials.

Do you have anything to say about the footage or do you just like to smear him the way you smear the students? Is he the wrong kind of Jew? Are those creatures in the video your model Jews?

Okay nutcase. You keep going on Alex Jones style. That’s sure to win people over. 👍👍

I’m defending protesters who are seeking peace. To the extent that there are other forces seeking to co-opt that effort, I’m not supportive of that.

Why would I defend the rights of white nationalists who espouse racist, hateful views like the pro-Israeli gang?

I think the latter should be pelted with rotten produce, but given an opportunity to rehabilitate their views, sure.

See? We are not the same. Thankfully.

There have been literally hundreds (if not thousands) of posts expressing disapproval of Israel's government, the settlers, etc., from the "pro Israel" posters here.

For example, in nearly 3,000 pages of posts I'd wager there haven't been 10 posts supportive of Netanyahu.

Not one acknowledging the systemic rot in Israeli treatment of the Palestinian people. Not one from a pro-Israel poster, that is. And you know it.

Sorry, but you're wrong. The settlements are hugely controversial, in Israel and the US, and protests were threatening to destroy the country last summer.

Guess you forgot?

I dunno. I’d say that expressing disapproval of the government, the military, and the settlers/expansion pretty much covers “systemic”.

Interestingly, if that’s our standard, have the pro-Palestinian posters subjected Palestinian actions to the same level of scrutiny?

Haven’t seen much of that, I have to say.
