Would love this, but they won't/can't. It's psychological for them. |
These responses are interesting --

Wow, AEA endorsed Angelo!!! |
Kind of hard for the Miranda camp to say he's not a serious candidate when the TEACHERS endorse him over her. This is a big deal. |
Makes the race more interesting. He has Reid and AEA. We’ll know in a week or so if it came in time for him. Doesn’t seem to be generating much interest on aem. |
Are they really surveying teachers to decide who to endorse? This is the same AEA whose president embezzled a ton of money, right? |
Oh sure attack the teachers. That's a good look for the Miranda camp. Bottom line, the teachers have spoken and it sure is embarrassing to Miranda. |
Thanks, Miranda seems kind of lukewarm. Angelo is much stronger. |
It’s not an attack on the teachers, I’m saying the organization has not been well run in the very recent past. That’s a fact. The organization is not the same thing as the teachers. |
This race will be much closer than a lot of us assumed. Should be interesting. Angelo appears to be the more progressive option which has a certain appeal to much of the electorate. He also has very strong endorsements. |
He has exactly two endorsements. Reid and the AEA. They are strong. But people seem to think both are a joke based on public reactions. Agree it will be closer than assumed now because people may reflexively vote for the AEA guy, but that assumes they show up in the first place. That's where Miranda seems to have the advantage. She locked up ACDC support, parent support in unexpected corners, and other community support. My money is on those people getting out to vote and not really caring about this AEA nod. |
The School Board Chair and the AEA are extremely strong endorsements. It's embarrassing for Miranda that she could not get those. |
From the AEA website: "The AEA is an organization of Arlington Public Schools (APS) employees who support our union through member dues, and who advocate for employee rights, fair treatment under APS policies and procedures, and a competitive employee compensation package, including salaries commensurate with the cost of living in Arlington." They did not choose Miranda and I'm listening. |
AEA's endorsement process does not include a vote by its teacher members. It is determined by a committee that interviews each candidate. It is not a sign that "teachers have spoken." |
Maybe she'll still get elected. But it's clear she doesn't have a wide base of support and there are key groups like the teachers union who don't support her. That's going to be a problem for her in office not just in the election. She just can't build bridges. |
