I like Moon and McDaniel. Not a big fan of McElveen, but I’m not buying what Davis is selling either. |
what is the right vision for FCPS should be headed? Your post does not give any reason to vote for her other than that you found her approachable. |
| Which schools has Paul Bartkowski‘s children attended? I don’t want another Langley rep. |
McDaniel seemed OK in 2019 but he’s now trying to be all things to all people (he’s far-left but a macho pilot, a traditional married dad with kids but a member of the LBGTQ community, etc.). And he keeps spouting off about political issues that have nothing to do with FCPS. No thanks. Even McElveen would be better. |
That is not true! I’ve spoken with Paul, and renovating overcrowded McLean HS is one of his top priorities. Addressing overcrowding is right on his website: “ I will also focus on solving the overcrowding problems in schools without placing burdens on students and families; the two groups who suffer consequences from overcrowding despite having no hand in causing the problem.” |
McLean HS pyramid. 100% sure of that. No need to go into what schools out of respect for their privacy. |
I won’t say which schools his kids have attended, but he lives in a Falls Church neighborhood zoned to Haycock/Longfellow/McLean. His opponent lives in an area in Herndon zoned to Clearview/Herndon/Herndon. So Dranesville District won’t have a rep from Langley either way come 2024. At least one of the at-large candidates (Ryan McElveen) lives in the Langley district. |
She said she wants to recruit and - this is extremely important - to retain, highly effective teachers. The current school board has sent teachers fleeing, into other jurisdictions, other states, or into retirement. She also said she will prioritize school security and safety. That’s important to me. The current board seems to be doing the opposite. The current board has made our schools less safe, with their muddled efforts at “restorative justice” seem designed more to keep violent bullies in school, and put the interests of violent kids ahead of a safe learning environment for all kids. |
What’s on his web site could just mean spending as little as possible on FCPS facilities across-the-board (which some GOP candidates usually tend to favor) and reassigning more McLean kids to Langley and/or Falls Church. If he wants to get more than 35-40% of the vote he’ll have to be less vague than what you’ve quoted. |
FCPS has fewer teacher resignations this year than most districts in the area. |
Sorry, should say last year 22-23SY. Was in a Post article. |
I had hopes for McDaniel but he seems all over the place. Not a fan of McElveen. Concerned about Davis’s stance on book bans. The Fairfax republicans delivered a whole stack of door hangers today which I looked through with interest. Brody sounds like an extremist nut. Davis sounds okay. Bartkowski sounds okay except for one bullet about “ideological insanity.” I’m good with being against that as long as he’s also talking about the right wing insanity. |
So does everyone. How does she propose to do that? |
That is correct. He feels very strongly about it. |
| So Moon, Aucoin, and Davis are reasonable? Anyone else? |
