| OP here. Both sides were handing out flyers during BTS night. Here’s some info online on candidates https://ballotpedia.org/Fairfax_County_Public_Schools,_Virginia,_elections_(2023). |
I thought they did comply with removing masks in schools but they had to administratively drag their feet about it for a few days first? I remember most of the teachers at my kid’s school (elementary, especially the early elementary teachers) stopped wearing them pretty much right away in March 2022 or whenever that was. |
Too bad candidates haven’t filled out the survey. I’m open to someone other than Lady for Dranesville but need to see if Bartkowski is an extremist or a normal person. |
Some have filled it out. |
I’m in the same boat. Feel like Lady would ignore our schools but not sure if Bartkowski would actively try to defund them. |
Bartkowski does have children in FCPS. Why would he try to defund schools in our system? How would that help his children? |
Does he still have kids in FCPS? I knew he did at one point but there are are some very vocal parents in that area (won’t name names but think of a famous department store catalogue) who pulled their kids out of FCPS yet nevertheless continue to criticize FCPS constantly. |
Bartkwoski filed a pro bono lawsuit in representation of FCPS families against the Fairfax County School Board and its Superintendent, Scott Brabrand, because their children’s attendance was affected by not wearing masks after the mandate was lifted. I don't understand what you said about Bartkowski. But, in any case, I don't live in Dranesville, so I guess it does not matter. As for "defunding schools." That does not occur at the SB level. That is the BOS decision and, as I recall, they really dinged the SB for not being practical. It's not the amount of money, it is the way the SB is spending it. |
To my knowledge, he does have children in FCPS and that’s the reason why he is running. At the same time, out of respect for his children’s right to privacy, I don’t see the need to bring them into this conversation. Besides, they are not the ones running for a seat at the School Board; they are too young! |
| Who do we like for at large? |
Personally will likely only vote for Moon and Davis. Know there are 3 at-large members and multiple candidates, but that’s my form of weighted voting. |
Ah yeah I remember that now. Honestly I support him. It’s too much to require everyone to wear a mask if it’s now proven that an individual can wear a good mask if they want and be protected even if others aren’t wearing one. |

Bartkowski lives in the McLean HS area but hasn’t advocated for an addition or renovation of the overcrowded school. It’s probably the top issue that might persuade a lot of Dranesville voters who normally vote for the Democratic candidate to switch sides and vote for an GOP candidate instead and he has nothing to say. Instead, it’s all the usual stuff about “parents’ rights” not being respected in FCPS.
He’ll be lucky to pull 40% this fall. |
I’ve been really impressed by Cassandra Aucoin for at large. She came in person to the Longfellow BTS night. She was so thoughtful in listening to parent concerns (which was refreshing). Her background is very impressive and she has the right vision for where FCPS should be headed. She is getting our votes. |
