the problem is the fundraising. Just go to vpap.org and check out who supports the SB members. That's why the endorsements are key. They should not allow party endorsements in non-partisan elections. |

Why should a private organization allow someone to be a member who has made a name for themself bashing said organization in the media? |
I feel like arguably grass roots should work for such a local election. No money, social media, personal presence at many town things, well known already. But I know that’s a unicorn. |
Open minded, tolerance, learning from other views. |
Why should the FCDC allow itself simply to be viewed as the alter ego for the School Board? |
The area is like 70% Democrats according to recent election results, so that stands to reason. |
I dont see where anyone suggested that. |
Theoretically that would be the case. In a smaller area a candidate could easily knock every door and make personal connections and win. But Fairfax County is so huge, that isnt really possible. So candidates need $$ to be able to afford lots of door hangars, yard signs, mailers, digital ads, etc. Hence the power of endorsements. You get $ and manpower and some lit made by fcdc that you dont need to pay for and your name on a sample ballot. |
If I tell you to your face that I loathe and despise every fiber of your being, you planning to invite me for dinner so we can learn from each other? |
If I’m a political party probably. |
Seemed like someone was arguing that someone who publicly criticized the School Board should be denied membership in the FCDC because they had thereby “bashed [the] organization” in the media. Read that as equating the School Board with the FCDC. Feel free to correct me or clarify the intent if I’ve misunderstood the tenor of the comments. |

It's not just denying membership to anyone that bashed the SB in the media, but also at SB meetings, and on social media. The message is loud and clear. if you don't like the SB, you can join FCDC. There's only one other viable option for parents to look to if they don't the following: 1. Prolonged school closures 2. Special Needs without school for year 3. The disruptive school calendar with the fewest 5 day weeks out all other school districts in the country 4. Unreported sexual assualts 5. Increase in human trafficking 6. Increase in violence 7. Increase in teachers leaving because they are not supported by administration in managing classrooms |
| It seems odd to me that if I criticize my local School Board member who really behaves more like a closet Republican than a Democrat the FCDC will turn down my membership application, but maybe it’s all about protecting and rewarding “our people,” not actual public policy issues. |
