Will your child wear a mask when they go back to school?

Did you read what she wrote? She was willing to sequester her child(ren) for a time, but not indefinitely. That was my main takeaway, and it’s not unlike the thinking of many other educated parents. The scenario we face now is very different from April 2020, i.e., COVID is more mild and more contagious, so avoiding it is much more difficult, on top of the 2+ years of social isolation and restrictions society has faced.

MoCo/MCPS had some of the strongest restrictions for the longest amount of time in the entire country. It’s worth examining the trade-offs of that approach; it’s also reasonable to adapt as circumstances evolve.

Also, no, our kids aren’t wearing masks.

Stop spreading misinformation! Although covid is 6+ times more contagious than the original variant, it is not milder. Yes, there is greater immunity which helps but there are large numbers of people being hospitalized, and don't even get me started on the long haul side-effects...

Look at a chart showing covid cases alongside covid deaths. Of course cases are milder. Hospitalizations are grossly inflated by large numbers of incidental cases, rather than hospitalizations for covid.

You now need to consider Monkey pox, Covid, Flu and other contagious things that are going around. Masking is a prudent and responsible thing to do for all students.

Kids have always gotten sick and will always get sick. That’s not a reason to mask.

Everything has been fully back to normal for at least a year. Stop making it sound like most people are still isolated when its now only by choice. We haven't had any true restrictions.

Why are people so accepting of illness? It doesn’t have to happen so often. Don’t go to school or work sick. Clean your hands.

But people only care about themselves.

So yes, my kid chooses to mask.

In MCPS? No, everything hasn’t been “fully back to normal.” Weekly PCR testing, lengthy quarantines for exposure, and the looming threat of school closures at any given moment are not “normal,” no matter how you try to spin it. Oh, and remember that until, what, March of 2022, kids were required to mask all day in school. That’s not “normal.”

Seriously. This poster isn’t just moving the goalposts, they’re removing them entirely.

(Also, monkeypox isn’t airborne.)

Masking boils down to whether parents care about their children's welfare or not.

Exactly. I care about my children's welfare, which is why I don't want them masking.

Sounds like children are responsible. I see a lot of kids still wear masks during orientation and back to school

How does it sound like children are responsible when you're making a casual observation based on sight?

Monkey pox is airborne in short distances. It’s not the primary way to spread but you are wrong to say it’s not airborne.

If wearing a masks is detrimental to your children, they have other issues. A well adjusted, sound, and mentally healthy child would be just fine.

Absolute crap. Wearing masks all the time is not normal, and inhibits social development. You are completely lost.

If they don't want to wear a mask, it's detrimental enough. They don't want to wear masks, haven't for a long time, and they won't next week.
