Will your child wear a mask when they go back to school?

Exactly. If you're making your kid wear a mask to school in September of 2022, you clearly don't care about their social, mental, and physical development.

If you mask, you care about your child's and family health and teaching them social responsibility. If their development is impacted, maybe something more is going on.

JFC. It's September 2022. The VAST majority of people worldwide, particularly children, aren't wearing masks for covid. Are you suggesting they all don't care? Get off that cross, we need the wood!

Yes, it is September 2022. So is this article.

"China locks down 65 million, discourages holiday travel"
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/china-locks-65-million-holiday-travel-peak-looms-89346875

Why do you think they're doing this? I believe it's because they're listening to their scientists instead of politicians. Their scientists are probably telling their government that covid is like ripples in a pond. The infections will spread out, but can (small chance) bounce back in the form of variants. If it was just 100 million to a billion, then that small chance of variant re-infection extinction could be measured in just a few years (to achieve herd immunity). However, when you have a billion people, two billion, three billion, many in tight spaces, many without protective gear and most without effective vaccinations; not only will you have reinfections by variants, but you will also see a secondary health hazard from not keeping up with the aftermath. And yes, you will need wood - a great many pyres of wood (like they had in India, for those of you who didn't read the news in 2021). That will be exactly what you could see happen in China, as well as a whole new host of variants to try out (and hopefully they will be as 'mild' as Omicron was).

It really is mind boggling how some people don't understand the math behind covid, but this is why the uneducated are pushing for no masks.

Some of you would probably be more comfortable in china , why not try to move there than keep wishing and hoping that everyone else will become more like them?

How is that sustainable? Is that their plan in 2025, 2030, 2040, etc? China's problem is a combination of sub-standard vaccines and a lack of community exposure/natural resistance. They've backed themselves into a corner with their zero Covid policy. It has nothing to do with their scientists and everything to do with their politicians (or rather, Xi's relection later this year).

We live here. It’s not insane. Some kids live with adults with health issues. Is that hard to understand?

DP. Judging by the number of masks I see, it seems like this area has a LOT of people with underlying health issues, which is really sad. And makes me wonder if we have a quiet environmental issue that is making everyone sick and vulnerable.

For many, the underlying health issue is anxiety.

I feel sorry for your kids.

Please don't!! They haven't missed a beat since summer of 2020. Right back to school (masked albiet) in Sept. 2020 with no disruptions. Honestly, if anything, I feel a bit too fortunate because my kids are so far ahead academically of most kids now...but hey, them's the breaks I guess. I sincerely feel saddened to see the kids being muzzled still with cloth smiley masks that do absolutely nothing but harm kids' confidence and mental health in general.

Clearly you kids are way, way behind in science and commons sense. Just like their mother.

But how???? Neither of them have gotten Covid. They followed masking rules and unmasked when permitted. They hate the masks, understandably. They are just normal kids with no anxiety, unlike many of your poor kids. I hope you have good health insurance that covers mental health treatment.

If you haven't been testing them regularly you don't know if they've had covid or not and you are probably someone who says its just allergies.

If you get covid and don't even know you have it, does it really f-ing matter?

Yes because you can make a lot of other people sick and it may be more serious for them.

Sorry but those people need to take sone responsibility for themselves at this point. It’s not my 6yo’s job to protect every vulnerable community member, even if it were possible.

Sounds like you need a better protective mask. Also, practice social distancing- everyone thinks they should just be able to do what they want as long as they have a mask on, but if you are that concerned about getting Covid you need to opt out of crowded events. If you can restrain yourself from most crowded activities and wear a properly fitted protective mask the rest of the time, your chances of getting Covid are relatively low. You’ve got this!

No, thanks. I'm not living my life like that and I can't believe you're okay with that sort of life. Is this your plan forever?

That's impossible for kids to do in MCPS schools, and that is the point of the discussion. The chances aren't low as we always mask and do nothing risky and still got covid over the summer.

Yup, loose fitting masks don’t work, especially in crowded spaces. If it’s comfortable, it’s not tight enough.

This is what it takes if you want to keep your family healthy. If you can’t be bothered, don’t complain when y’all get Covid over and over.

How many times do you plan to get Covid before you will admit changes are needed?

Well, my family and I have yet to get COVID but it's not because we're living like hermits. Notice how the "mask forever" crowd is never willing to answer the question of how long they plan to continue wearing masks and staying socially isolated.

Because they don’t know the answer, dummy. We all thought vaccines would end this and it’s proved otherwise.

Nothing is really going to “end” this though, Covid is here to stay. So it comes down to something that will make them feel safer, be it a new, highly effective treatment (with no rebound effect) or more mutations that render it little more than the sniffles with no long Covid threat. Or something along those lines.

What do you mean by “variant re-infection immunity”?

Covid replicates quickly enough that durable immunity against infection from vaccination or prior infection is unlikely, even for a particular strain. There’s always going to be reinfections and new variants.
